This morning (21 July), in commemoration of Racial Harmony Day, both Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and President Halimah Yacob highlighted the importance of maintaining harmony in Singapore's multiracial society.
In his Facebook post, PM Lee mentioned that strengthening racial harmony "demands constant effort and engagement". While the lived experiences of the young and old might differ, he urged everyone to "work together to build a harmonious society for all".
In a similar vein, President Halimah urged Singapore to continue promoting "inter-racial and cultural understanding among our young generation" in her Faceboo…

[4:23 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Honestly is racism the problem lol ^I do hate some people from my own race_

Ken
[4:30 pm, 21/07/2020] +: 🤣🤣🤣  you hate me right?
[4:30 pm, 21/07/2020] +: 🤪

Blue and White Flag Guy
[4:30 pm, 21/07/2020] +: At first yes sia but now I find you goddamn cool 🤣

Ken
[4:30 pm, 21/07/2020] +: I mean, we can dislike a person for his/her behaviour, how they treat us etc etc. but not because they're of a certain race lar.

CQ
[4:31 pm, 21/07/2020] +: wah, the bromance!

Ken
[4:31 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Race topic sure sensitive, need to read and read before typing if not kena flame 🤣

[4:32 pm, 21/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Hating others - is suffering.
Letting go of hatred - is releasing ourselves from suffering.

My close friend's comments :-

We have to break away our old mindset about 4 races in Sg ie Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian.
It is about adopting a global outlook, a cosmopolitan city evolving and thriving as a city-state. And cross-racial marriages - what race are their children?
We want learn to go beyond race to understand, love, respect, live and work together for a better Singapore

Blue and White Flag Guy
[4:48 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Where the U.S. has been fundamentally racist that even how their cities and transportation are built in a way that put the minorities at a disadvantage, our racism is mostly just casual
Obviously you don't say something racist to someone you don't know but to a friend, it's always different

Droll
[4:49 pm, 21/07/2020] +: I'm still waiting for the day we identify only as humans. We got close to it a few times, but it has been forgotten.

Blue and White Flag Guy
[4:50 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Perhaps American organisations want to prioritise those who are from the minority races but whenever one is told to fill up a form, and say what his or her ethnicity is, it kinda defeats the purpose
It will still feel like racial segregation to the person filling up that form

Blue and White Flag Guy
[4:51 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Ever seen a form like that?

Theirs is like
White
Asian
Latino
Black
Others

While ours is like
Chinese
Malay
Indian
Others
Perhaps we're only overthinking.

Ken
[4:56 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Cause race is closer to the skin and blood. We more keen to help our “own” people.
Just like more willing help Singaporean overseas. Is it natural we can’t prevent it. Which clause you are more willing to work for, and have stronger relationship. Sometimes good can come out of it, but on the other hand can create divisions within communities

Ken
[5:02 pm, 21/07/2020] +: We are lucky, we are more Singaporean than race. Partly due to NS.
[5:03 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Going through the same shit together bonds us

XaniceAfcai
[5:17 pm, 21/07/2020] +: wondering does everyone know the importance of Racial Harmony Day in Sg multicultural and multi-ethnic society?

To me, Racial Harmony Day is to commemorate the communal riots of 1964 and the importance of maintaining racial and religious harmony.

Should media broadcast to remind people its importance?

Contribute

1. To raise the level of understanding amongst neighbours of different races, activities are organised in the neighbourhood to bring various races and ethnic groups together. this is to develop and organise racial harmony programmes.

2.  Different religions should exercise moderation and tolerance towards each other and their beliefs, and not instigate religious enmity or hatred. Respect and Be optimistic.

Commit to inner peace. Just accept who they are and what they are. Afterall, Harmony is of greater importance than some consider it to be. It allows people to be united in spite of their diversity. Harmony helps prevent wars and conflicts and results in better understanding of one's fellow people

3.  Religion and politics should be kept separate.

4. Children in schools celebrate Racial Harmony Day by wearing traditional costumes of various cultures  and participating in activities such as trying ethnic food and playing traditional games. they will be given a video to watch.

5. We can start by connecting with friends, family, partners, and neighbors. Focus on dealing with any disharmony in one life in a generous, compassionate way and giving back to people in your community.

6. For work wise, dun be judgemental, try to be understanding n empathy. Patience, communication and cooperation are part of harmonious society.

In my opinion, helpfulness, selflessness, appreciation for others, respect, self reflection, kindness, and cooperation are all traits of peaceful and harmonious communities.

[5:18 pm, 21/07/2020] +: I'll be the first to admit that I used to be very racist against Indians. But one event changed it.

Rama
[5:18 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Oh!

Droll
[5:18 pm, 21/07/2020] +: I was trying to rescue a dog on a busy express way. The animal had been hit by a car and had hurt its leg. Nobody would stop to help. Only an Indian chap did it. He told me it is dangerous, because of the heavy traffic volume. But that event changed my view and wiped out the racism.
[5:19 pm, 21/07/2020] +: And I am forever grateful for that.
[5:19 pm, 21/07/2020] +: I am not ashamed to admit my flaws.

Droll
[5:19 pm, 21/07/2020] +: He even took the dog to the vet together with me.

Ken
[5:19 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Is more of chance, everyone have good and bad times. We are just human

Droll
[5:20 pm, 21/07/2020] +: 👍

Droll
[5:20 pm, 21/07/2020] +: So after that event, I saw a car bumper sticker that said, "Before you go to heaven, you need to go to hell."

Rama
[5:20 pm, 21/07/2020] +: I am proud of you
[5:21 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Yes

Rama
[5:21 pm, 21/07/2020] +: No venture, no gain!

[5:22 pm, 21/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Racial harmony :-
1. Look beyond the colour of the skin.
2. Look at the person's heart and character.

Rama
[5:22 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Yes

Droll
[5:22 pm, 21/07/2020] +: Sticker was telling me, you need to go through some pain before you can appreciate what's around you. :)
[5:23 pm, 21/07/2020] +: I also used to work frequently with foreign workers e.g. Bangldeshis. They get some of the worst treatment.
[5:23 pm, 21/07/2020] +: But they have some of the best hearts.
