[10:00 am, 23/05/2022] +REACH: 📢 Topic 📢

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) announced the decrease in fire incidents in residential premises in the first quarter of this year, as compared to the first quarter of last year.

Despite that, some of the recent fire incidents have led to deaths - such as the Bedok North flat fire. Hence, fire safety continues to be a concern in the community and everyone can play a part in contributing towards a fire-safe environment.

💬 What are your views on the fire prevention efforts in Singapore? How would you rate your emergency preparedness during a fire incident?

Some of the fire prevention efforts listed here:

🔹The National Fire and Emergency Preparedness Council (NFEC) has engaged 2,294 new households on the importance of residential fire safety through roadshows since last November.

🔹SCDF conducts a post-fire public education blitz to residents nearby after a fire takes place. This includes going door to door to share fire safety educational materials with residents.

🔹SCDF launched a programme in October 2021 to equip the public on first aid skills such as CPR and using a fire extinguisher.

🔹Residents may refer to the household fire safety checklist found in SCDF’s online Civil Defence Emergency Handbook, to help them manage risks at home. There are also other free fire safety publications available to members of public on SCDF's website.

🔹SCDF conducts regular enforcement checks at residential premises to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.

🔹SCDF acknowledges first responders’ efforts, the members of the public who put out small fires like rubbish chute fires.

[10:09 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: The 5 Different Classes of Fires

The 5 main classes of fires are categorized by what caused the fire or what the fire uses as fuel, and are as follows:

Class A: solid materials such as wood or paper, fabric, and some plastics

Class B: liquids or gas such as alcohol, ether, gasoline, or grease

Class C: electrical failure from appliances, electronic equipment, and wiring

Class D: metallic substances such as sodium, titanium, zirconium, or magnesium

Class K: grease or oil fires specifically from cooking

[10:12 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: SCDF is also working with various stakeholders in fire prevention. 1 of the major counterparty is People association, various GRO especially C2E is working on fire prevention matters.

[10:13 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Each block equip with fire extinguishers at strategic KNOWN locations.

Residence or RCs should have the know-how to activate these fire extinguishers before SCDF arrives and hopefully things will be extinguished.

Unless the situation is more than these residences could cope, SCDF will be the call of that situation.

There is a need to teach residence on basics of fire from gas explosion to electrical related fire.

SCDF, Town Councils and RCs to converge in this education, practical and safety awareness program.

[10:17 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Self checks own living space.

Gas pipe and connectors, stove?

Electrical plugs, PowerPoints and MCB?

Electric bike?

[10:17 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: From a human psychology perspective, agencies and stakeholders need to continue the efforts to create awareness of Fire prevention among residents and non-residents on various premises. Unless there are early notification and automatic fire suppression systems on all premises, including residential units, otherwise (1) human awareness, (2) equipment and location meet fire safety standards are essential and cost-effective in preventing fire

[10:19 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: CEPP program from SCDF is an excellent program that everyone in Singapore should attend

[10:19 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Let's extend public housing safety initiatives into private Condo and landed homes plus (offices abd malls)?

[10:20 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Condo managed by mcst..

[10:20 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Intensity & Reaction:

10sqm fire vs 100sqm

[10:21 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: MCST and on ground staffs must have basics of fire fighting or know what to do next mindset?

[10:22 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Fire and water are two big natural disaster potentials!

[10:22 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Very seldom saw mcst and people association or agencies working together. Mcst has their way of doing their event, if any.

[10:22 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Plus wind

[10:23 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: The ground staff is covered by building fire regulations,  and usually should have a fire safety manager if I m not wrong

[10:23 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: SCDF occasional UNANNOUNCED spot checks like our DPM Goh Keng Swee morning drive in to army camps!

[10:24 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Hopefully! extinguishers work and NO fire hazards and no blocked safety evacuation paths?

[10:25 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: I m not sure whether Scdf can do surprise check in private condo, need to check the law and regulations.

[10:25 am, 23/05/2022] +Uncle Law: Generally home owners are aware of fire prevention and would have taken basic precautions against fire.

Perhaps the authority should look closely at the causes of these fires.

RCs should also reach out to elderly living alone and brief/remind them on fire prevention.

[10:25 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: "things happened and lessons learned, hopefully not...?"

[10:25 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Mcst and fire safety manager responsibility right?

[10:25 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Good idea! Hi SL!

[10:26 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Responsibility is part of individuals WILL and ATTITUDES, hopefully?

[10:27 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Diff  locations have diff types of fire. I understand SCDF does investigate the cause of the fire.

[10:28 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Army daze, we do have occasional fire drills and once in a blue moon actual fire fighting exercise...

Can be "Kallang kabor" for all!

[10:29 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Common fires are electrical and more dangerous GAS explosions!

[10:30 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Cylindrical gas tank vs SP gas pipe in

[10:31 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: From a typical learning cycle, humans can retain memories at a defined length of time. Continue awareness via various communication channels is the most effective at the current moment.

[10:32 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Maybe there is a need for each HDB floor ti have an electrical CUT OFF whenever fire sensor activates.

The next intervention will be human at work... RCs or immediate neighbors or call SCDF...

[10:32 am, 23/05/2022] +Uncle Law: In terms of the demographic of such houses

[10:33 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Based on the newspaper, common fire in residential areas seems like cause by solid waste, unattended kitchen cooking, electrical gadget.

[10:33 am, 23/05/2022] +Uncle Law: Old folks?

Or houses hogging to many items? And etc

[10:33 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: The best experience and exposure will be FACED the FIRE and TRY FIGHTING it... Hopefully not a fast and furious one?

[10:33 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Also commercial premises etc

[10:34 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Good morning Uncle Law!

Good point!

[10:35 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: CEPP from Scdf is the best opportunity to learn basic how to use the fire extinguisher and put out rubbish chute fire for residents

[10:35 am, 23/05/2022] +Uncle Law: Morning morning

[10:35 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Scorching fire is like standing 10 times near to a BBQ pit...

[10:35 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Melts your contact lens too!

[10:36 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Your clothings these days are extremely fire friendly too... Poly...

[10:37 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: House hogging in HDB units can look for help from agencies. No idea Who to look for help about hogging in condos or commercial units.

[10:39 am, 23/05/2022] +Uncle Law: NC

[10:40 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Most vegetable oils will catch fire at 232c while animal fats catch fire at about 190c, and it doesn't take too long for them to reach these temperatures. Grease fires can start, and spread, very quickly.

[10:43 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: The electric equipment with safety mark + awareness of looking for degraded equipment + not overloading eclectic current + replace of frayed wire + avoid improper connection + avoid running wires near hot surface & always switch off appliances when not in use may help to reduce the electrical fire.

[10:45 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Thanks for the info. nc worked with mcst?

[10:47 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: households may not be aware of these electrical checks and some will continue using till the appliance knocks off.. Or fire begins?

That's realities checking?

[10:47 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: In hdb, RC and C2E run the drill.

[10:48 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Good point, SL!

[10:48 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Agencies and people association need to communicate to residents.

[10:48 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Actual fire fighting drills are a CLEAR SIGNAL to all that...

Don't play play with fire!

[10:49 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: It is really scorching hot.... Our SCDF guys know very well and very brave to FACE the fire!

[10:50 am, 23/05/2022] +Uncle Law: To a certain extent, yes

[10:50 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Continue awareness is very important to ensure residents remain alert on fire.

[10:52 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Agreed, I observed myself in my friend's unit. Their collaboration is unique.

[10:53 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Our SCDF officers and NSmen are very brave and helpful.

[10:54 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: "that ONE in a Million chance, that's what many will think and count, perhaps will not be my home...?"

- - annoymous

[10:54 am, 23/05/2022] +Uncle Law: Pre covid NC organised activities for condos in the area

[10:55 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Fight terrorists, Fight covid, Fight Dengue and Fight Fire... Next?

[10:56 am, 23/05/2022] +Uncle Law: Fight Spam

Fight inflation

Fight low salary

[10:59 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: There are fire hose reels in buildings, each level for hdb and condo. A fire extighdher (dry power) or fire blanket should be sufficient for a housing unit (fire extinguisher required maintenance, and both gave expiry date). Putting a fire extender in the open + without monitored area may become a risk by itself.

[11:01 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Seems fighting a  lifetime effort! Uncle Law, thanks for adding more!

[11:02 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Reassess existing measures and area of potential hazards...

Lifestyles and behaviors changed, this half of 2022 and tomorrow?

[11:04 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Safest place is most dangerous... 最安全的地方最危险

[11:05 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: You means the high, medium low risks area for fire hazard?

[11:05 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: The lapse and gap... A need to eyeball

[11:05 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: What's hot today may not be hot tomorrow...!

[11:11 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Climate changed, these days temp getting hotter...

Outdoor areas?

[11:13 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: In terms of the lifecycle of fire, the established burning point usually is a combination of 3 to yield the potential positive heat feedback loop. If one of them is removed, the ignition may not happen, and it will be self-extinguished. Fire code will take care of the regulations required in building design

[11:15 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: BCA and SCDF have existing guildlines in print and implemented, however....

[11:15 am, 23/05/2022] +Uncle Law: Town councils and mcst need to continue to engage the residentS on illegal hogging of items along common areas.

If need be, empower them the authority to remove and issue fines the units responsible

[11:16 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: "fire has not eye...?"

[11:19 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Let's expand abit out of homes...

Petrol stations are safe place, likewise petroleum tankers moving and discharging are also safe vehicles...

Jurong Island is a safe place...

Airport is a safe place too

STRATEGIC assets must be constantly assess and audit for safety...

[11:20 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: "never say never...?"

[11:23 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: The Town Council has “by law” to remove obstruction objects in a common area

[11:23 am, 23/05/2022] +Rama: Feasible?

[11:25 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Not sure too. Sensor to install in a unit? This will bring up another issue of invasion of privacy maybe

[11:27 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Two years of "low key" of economics activities have perhaps RETARD certain elements of certainty and may lead to surprises like accidents and this case our focus on FIRE itself!

WFM will be a new lifestyles or business changes.

The world moving toward electronics dependence to inch up the productivity and so on....

So much so that we human are relying on technologies to mitigate this case can be a natural fire starting moment?

[11:27 am, 23/05/2022] +Uncle Law: Normally they don't act on it till someone conplains

[11:28 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: I see. Neighbour will complain right?

[11:29 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Using DRONES to fight fire in multi story building fire situation??

Drones connect chemical, powder based or water hose?

[11:30 am, 23/05/2022] +Uncle Law: Maybe handful

[11:30 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: "Receiving Complaints happen to be the cheapest IMPROVEMENTS in life...? "

- - annoymous

[11:32 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: Saw several video clips showing this type of deployment oversea, putting out a fire. Power usually is stored in a cylinder, water is with a hose, there are Some limitations on using this type of equipment.

[11:32 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Like REACH.... What a feeling to receive millions of feedback, digest these big data and come up with BIG KEY Words for each question of intent!

What a SMART REACHING!

[11:34 am, 23/05/2022] +SL: A drone is heavily used in all aspects of life, agricultural, cleaning, surveying, and removing objects from a dangerous high spot

[11:38 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Heavy duty drone similar to military use... Up to 500kg payload these military assets...

For fire fighting use, 200kg enough... Key is speed in setting up, effective range of SPRAY and reloading of water, chemical, CO2, etc....

[11:44 am, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: https://youtu.be/9iFQ0BLp4wM

[0:34 pm, 23/05/2022] +Rama: 😂🤣😅

[0:43 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Mr Rama, isn't it true or otherwise?

Feel the ground of all matters...

Big data is powerful in predictions up to 95% confidence... In Ukraine war, using AI to count and calibrate strategies from micro attacks to major troops and weapons deployment..

[0:53 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Complex algorithms 一举一动

These day big data can identify one's mood, sentiment towards things through key words, what one's watches, communicates and consumes, etc...

Supercomputers with a good modelling will derive clear and calibrated answers to your questions or challenges... In minutes or seconds, depending on the complexity of tasks chucking data...

No place is safe, these days... (一举一动) only if, if only that entity is relevant to be watched or evaluated!

With it individuals, a community, a company, a country etc... "those smart phones"! "

"Scale up or zoom in... the absolute power of AI?"

[1:14 pm, 23/05/2022] +jimmy chew: AI need good and intelligent programmers and strategist. There's a saying " garbage in garbage out.".

[1:28 pm, 23/05/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. There is so much the Government can do :- basically by educating, providing information to educate people to be aware of fire hazard at home and what preventive measures to undertake.

2. Household will have to be vigilant to ensure our own home will not become a fire hazard.

a. Ensure we will not keep a large amount of combustible materials at home.

b. Do not overload our electrical sources - by charging too many electrical appliances at one source - whereby every electrical source is only 13 Amp (13 Amp * 230 volts = 2,990 watt)

c. Ensure every house have a ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) - to ensure that when electrical overload or leakage occurs or using faulty electrical applances, the ELCB will trip and cut off electricity supply.

d. Ensure cooking of food is supervise and do not leave the house or cook without supervision - until the food is cook and all cooking appliances are properly switch off.

e. Switch off all unnecessary electrical appliances at night before sleeping or leaving the house - to reduce electrical load.

f. Do not burn or use naked fire at home - as accident may occur.

g. Do not charge ebike or eScooter overnight and supervise at home - as the lithium batteries are a fire hazard.

h. Fire rated doors and walls - can retard the spread of fire.

i. Do not store unnecessary items along the common corridor - as it may obstruct people from evacuating or itself will become a fire hazard.

3. I think common sense must prevail to reduce the risk of fire hazard at home. We must be vigilant and ensure no fire will occur at our home.

4. Most important, we need to establish the cause of the fire at Bedok North to determine what trigger the fire - so that we can take preventive measures and not make similar mistake.

[1:34 pm, 23/05/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Just pondering, wonder whether does it make sense to install fire fighting sprinkler system at home - that will automatically activate once detected fire?

2. Office building has such installation but not sure about residential home.

[1:45 pm, 23/05/2022] +RH: My thots too...  On installing fire sprinklers in the house,  esp the kitchen & living room areas - these r common areas in the hm where ppl gather.

Perhaps HDB can work w SCDF to incorporate these into future housing?

As for existing houses,  how abt giving each household a fire blanket or house mini extinguisher as a start?  (in light of the recent fires this year,  not only in Bedok but elsewhere before tt too?

[1:48 pm, 23/05/2022] +KSFoong: All these systems need routine check. To install them for every household may not be pragmatic. But i do think each family to have a fire extinguisher is practical. We could inform the owner to send it back for indpection periodically for their own safety. Insurance company could add this as a requirement for fire insurance application  acceptance criteria.

[1:48 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: 80% of our housing are high rise building, offices too.

Our HDB blocks these days are 40 floors.

What if fire broke out at mid level or first 1/3 of the building?

[1:55 pm, 23/05/2022] +RH: As for education  ...

I hv not seen the RC in my block being active on this. No flyer, no notice, no reminder,  .... Nothing abt fire safety...

As far as courses on fire safety / life saving CPR etc...  These r up to ppl to sign up.  Not proactively advocated by RC.

My point is...

Not enough effort is being put in to drill hm the msg on fire safety at hm.

If ther r any flyers or leaflets,  these need to be in the 4 languages.

Ther is a need for F2F contact...  PA or RC or grassroots volunteers nd to knock on doors (speak dialects if estate is more elderly oriented),  in order to bring hm the msg.

Despite all the hype on social media, and our devices,  ther is still a vast section of the popn who Do Not use tech or know how to tap into such devic…

[1:57 pm, 23/05/2022] +RH: Agree.

I hv a small fire extinguisher at hm,  placed strategically in my kitchen.

Last checked, expires next year.

[1:58 pm, 23/05/2022] +RH: Owners of PMD shd be esp vigilant...

And shd not leave the device charging without supervision.

[2:01 pm, 23/05/2022] +Rama: RC will step up around election time and taper off about one year after New term

[2:04 pm, 23/05/2022] +RH: Like I said, start w issue of fire blanket or fire extinguisher to each household

+

Let it be accompanied by an Auth person to explain how to use it.

Alternatively, get RC / CC to organize distribution in grp / by block w in person attendance by at least one member of each household to collect their blanket.  This is less labour intensive and more organised.

Only after this initial public exercise,  then flw up w visits to homes tt hv not yet collected.

[2:05 pm, 23/05/2022] +RH: 😅😅

All  "for show",  ya.... ?

[2:05 pm, 23/05/2022] +Rama: Exactly

[2:06 pm, 23/05/2022] +RH: 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷‍♀️  So much for politics..

[2:10 pm, 23/05/2022] +Rama: Ýup

[2:19 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Mr Rama,.... Wait!

[2:19 pm, 23/05/2022] +Rama: More!?

[2:28 pm, 23/05/2022] +Caleb: and plastic bags at supermarkets too

[2:29 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Next bio hazard.... "Fight plastic bags campaign "

[2:46 pm, 23/05/2022] +Guillermo Cabeza: Compared to say 20yrs ago it is now much easier and cheaper to outfit our homes with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers - I did so last year when I moved into an older place. I wholeheartedly agree with the comments above that more education is needed. The SCDF website is good but you have to already be aware of fire safety to go there. When there was the spate of PMV fires there was a lot of education about this before they were largely banned but now nothing. Makes no sense when you compare to the effort put into dengue.

"fire has no eye, humans have brains...?"

Story of a fire:

Location, FLOOR, TYPE of housing, number of rooms, blueprint of this home, TIME of fire broke out (wee hours vs busy hours). CLASS of fire and AGE of home.

MCB, number of electric appliances, aircon, etc

Number of casualty and number of unhurt?

From call received by 985/999, how many minutes from call to the first drop of water sprayed?  What TYPES of fire? The EXTEND of the fire?

Ambulance arrival time? Equipments for saving burned victims, breathing apparatus, so on?

From many past actual situations, perhaps the next fire will be better handled and faster reaction time. Will one fire engine, 6 firefighters and 1 ambulance enough for 3-5 rooms flat ?

What's the analytics, ahead of things, this eyeless FIRE - preventions better than cure?

Fixed items + variables appliances at tines will OVERLOAD things like electricity supplies and so on, watch that gas pipeline with it cylinder gas tank or pipe in gas!

[3:22 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: The degree of burned victim will be a good indicator of class of fire, proximity to fire point and time of exposures...

Wee hours are perhaps usually electrical fire versus normal busy hours that may be gas fire?

Where are the points of escapement? Referencing... Burning Flat, lower and above floors and the block?

[3:26 pm, 23/05/2022] +BL: I'm a bit behind on this thread... mandatory smoke detectors seems like an obvious approach. Subsidies for hdb where appropriate.

[3:28 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: What's the risk stratification by age, gender, profession, education?

In Philippines, these radicals love to 'recruit' university students. As for which specific university, no comment!

For a start, perhaps look at Professor J Allan Hobson breakthrough thesis on "chemistry of conscious states"?

This banned preacher may already started some fire in the thicks of the forest, where? Think like a young one - YOLO (you only live once)?

By passing the place of worship! Private social media chat / small chat groups, these may be sweet spots for incubating and starting a spark?

You will stop using it, starting now!

[3:59 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Metaphor moment :

Dropped Singtel

Signed with Starhub

Hopped to M1 for savings

Doesn't matter, all three telcos use 4G/5G/wifi... locations are known likewise all messaging, browsing, calling etc....

"Only if, if only..."

Unless you are a lone lamb with no SMART PHONE!

THAT'S A BIG PROBLEM!

[4:04 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Fyi,

https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/us-unveils-asia-pacific-trade-framework-but-questions-remain

"Unlike raditional trade blocs, there is no plan for IPEF members to negotiate tariffs and ease market access - a tool that has become increasingly unpalatable to US voters fearful of seeing homegrown manufacturing undermined.

The starting list of members in addition to the United States is Australia, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam."

Who are the Outliers standing this refenced compound?

[4:42 pm, 23/05/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Wonder what is so good about ipef - when there's no tangible trade and investment benefits.

[4:44 pm, 23/05/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Rcep and cptpp make more economical sense for us - because they are solid trade and investment benefits.

[4:45 pm, 23/05/2022] +Rama: Competition for belt and road initiative!?

[4:47 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: RCEP vs IPEF

[4:47 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: The sweet thing is YOU CAN JOIN BOTH CLUBS...

[4:52 pm, 23/05/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

I think we participate more like to make US stay engage in this region with some fringe benefits like green tech, cybersecurity tech etc.

But solid trade and investment benefits that give us prosperity, business, jobs and growing our economy - make more sense with rcep and cptpp.

Hence, China will continue to be the growing outsize economic influence in Asia Pacific - not US.

China and HK trade with us is $140 billion annually compare to US $40 billion.

So how could US overtake China when US economy increasingly turn inwards.

[4:57 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: US to date has almost $600 billions in Singapore... Fyi

[4:58 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Foreign funds flowing to almost $4.7 trillions... Into Singapore...

[5:00 pm, 23/05/2022] +REACH: Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Law, Mr K Shanmugam spoke to reporters at MHA’s headquarters today regarding the denied entry of the Indonesian Preacher into Singapore. It was reported that he was refused entry due to his extremist and segregationist teachings.

We would love to hear your thoughts on this matter as well!

You may submit your responses here: https://go.gov.sg/reachqs-indopreacher. This form will close today at 7pm.

[5:00 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: By 2016, we already clocked over $2.0 trillion.

In the early say 2008, perhaps $1.2 trillion in flow.

Tomorrow? Trajectory towards $6.5 trillion before 2030?

[5:09 pm, 23/05/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

US investment in Singapore is about $244 billion.

This is the only positive development and one of the main reason why we continue to engage US.

[5:13 pm, 23/05/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

But US increasingly turning inward is a great concern to us.

[5:19 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: “China will inevitably catch up to the U.S. in absolute GDP. But its creativity may never match America’s, because its culture does not permit a free exchange and contest of ideas.”

[5:20 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: “Technology is going to make (China’s) system of governance obsolete. By 2030, 70% or maybe 75% of their people will be in cities, small towns, big towns, mega big towns. They are going to have cell phones, Internet, satellite TV. They are going to be well-informed; they can organize themselves. You cannot govern them the way you are governing them now, where you just placate and monitor a few people, because the numbers will be so large.”

- - Lee Kuan Yew

[5:20 pm, 23/05/2022] +Rama: Agree

[5:21 pm, 23/05/2022] +Rama: Let them find out the hard way

[5:23 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: “I do not believe you can impose on other countries standards which are alien and totally disconnected with their past. So to ask China to become a democracy, when in its 5,000 years of recorded history it never counted heads; all rulers ruled by right of being the emperor, and if you disagree, you chop off heads, not count heads.”

[5:24 pm, 23/05/2022] +Rama: Well said

[5:24 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: “A people’s standard of living depends on a number of basic factors: first, the resources it has in relation to its population . . .; second, its level of technological competence and standards of industrial development; third, its educational and training standards; and fourth, the culture, the discipline and drive in the workforce.”

[5:37 pm, 23/05/2022] +Smiley face: Perhaps these Lee Kuan Yew's statements are valuable to keep in mind when things aren't smooth going... These days this world now!
