It is heartening Twenty US states, 110 cities, and over 1,400 businesses with US operations have adopted quantified emissions reduction targets, the report found.
Collectively, they represent US$25 trillion (S$34 trillion) in market capitalisation and nearly a billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
Total global emissions were about 42 billion tonnes in 2015, according to the Global Carbon Project.
California has adopted the most ambitious targets, requiring the state to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030.
----US businesses and local governance has greater wisdom than Trump and his white house environmental ministers in controlling and managing the greenhouse effect.
