Singapore is prepared in principle to recognise Palestine as a state and will make this move at an appropriate time, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said in Parliament on July 2.

Its key consideration in doing so is that such a move should help the progress towards peace and a negotiated two-state solution. “In particular, there will need to be an effective Palestinian government that accepts Israel’s right to exist and categorically rejects terrorism,” Minister Vivian said. “Both sides have legitimate rights, and both peoples have a right to live in peace and dignity within secure borders.”

๐Ÿ’ฌ *What are your thoughts on Singapore being prepared to recognise Palestine as a state when an effective Palestinian government is in place? What else can be done to assist countries experiencing conflict or humanitarian crisis?*

๐Ÿ“Œ *10 May United Nations Resolution backing the admission of Palestine as a member*

Minister Vivian was responding to questions on Singapore’s May 10 decision to vote for a United Nations resolution backing the admission of Palestine as a member of the world body, which it said was made after “serious and careful consideration”.

Minister also reiterated the principles guiding Singapore’s position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He noted that Singapore has consistently advocated a negotiated two-state solution, consistent with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, as a way for Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace and security.

When asked about the thresholds that need to be crossed for Singapore to recognise the state of Palestine, Minister Vivian said it depends on whether there is an effective Palestinian government or leadership that represents all Palestinians.

This authority should have effective control over the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and the mandate and authority to negotiate with the Israelis on behalf of the Palestinians, he said. “So, I would say that we are not going to lock ourselves in to a specific time, or to whether or not other countries have made decisions in parallel on the same fundamental question,” he added.

๐Ÿ“Œ *Singapore's assistance to Palestine*

Minister Vivian said Singapore will continue its engagement with the Palestinian Authority (PA). Singapore continues to implement its $10 million Enhanced Technical Assistance Package (Etap) to help the PA build capacity and prepare for eventual statehood.

Under the Etap, PA officials are provided sponsorship to participate in study visits to Singapore and capacity-building courses under the Singapore Cooperation Programme. It also offers scholarships for the officials to pursue postgraduate studies at Singapore universities.

In 2016, then Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced the doubling of the pledge amount of the previous package from $5 million to $10 million, with a focus on skills building.

To date, Singapore has trained more than 750 officials in areas like diplomacy, water management, economic development and urban planning – important areas that any government will need expertise in, Dr Balakrishnan said.

3/7/24, 10:08 am - +Rama: Past and current Palestinian authority weak and can be manipulated by various proxy.

3/7/24, 10:08 am - +Rama: As such, will never accept Israel right to exist!

3/7/24, 10:16 am - +Frankie Wee: Palestinian’s non constitution and policies. Israel’s side are support sovereign nations

3/7/24, 10:51 am - +Kenneth Lee WM: Agree that it is right to recognise Palestinian state at the appropriate time.

I think the appropriate time is when Palestine also recognises israel’s right to exist.

3/7/24, 11:27 am - +Rama: Which will never happen!

3/7/24, 11:37 am - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. This Israel and Palestine right of existence issue have drag on for too long. Result in too many conflicts and bloodshed.

2. Cores of the issues are 2 fold:-

a. Territorial dispute

b. Religious issues - specifically both are unable to accommodate historical prophets respective ascending and return - that both denominations (including Christianity) view as critical events in their salvation.

3. To resolve these 2 very biting issues - there must be a strong will on 2 sides (including Christianity) to want to stop incessant killings for thousands of years once and for all, to heal, and to eventually coexist in peace.

4. Hence breaking the ice - should be the strong desires to forge peace, stop killings and search for permanent solutions for peace.

3/7/24, 11:39 am - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. The success of faiths is to preach peace, compassion and final good salvation upon passing.

2. And how the followers walk the talk determine - whether the teachings have been adhere to.

3. Human shortcomings are no excuse - by making killing sacred in the pretext of protecting a faith.

4. Because the karma of killings have bad consequences and are hell bound. Don't believe, see what happens in Gaza, Israel, Lebanon. If not living hell, what is? <This message was edited>

3/7/24, 11:46 am - +Frankie Wee: What about Hamas? Then Palestinian is follower history than Israel

3/7/24, 11:49 am - +Frankie Wee: Hamas is part of ISIS group territory as for people Palestinian ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ freedom

3/7/24, 11:56 am - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Any groups that preaches violence commit sin.

It is not a path to paradise but is hell bound.

This is the universal law of karma.

3/7/24, 11:57 am - +Frankie Wee: This history no longer constitution

3/7/24, 12:04 pm - ~ REACH Singapore changed the group description

3/7/24, 12:19 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. The hardest part is both sides have moderates that want to find a permanent peaceful solutions.

2. Both sides also have hardliners that want only their own ways without room for compromising - hence results in no breakthrough.

3. This result in thousands of years of endless killings and violence with no respite. Because both sides hardliners refuse to budge in territorial negotiations and both refuse to give and take in control of their respective holy sites.

4. If 2 and 3 are not managed wisely - there will be no hope for breakthrough.

5. Violence and conflicts will just pass from generations to generations in a vicious cycle without respite.

3/7/24, 12:19 pm - +Rama: Who created and funded hamas in the first place!?

3/7/24, 12:19 pm - +Rama: Rubbish!

3/7/24, 12:24 pm - +Frankie Wee: Unable to search history who was created name it as sovereign

3/7/24, 12:26 pm - +Frankie Wee: Mate Ai say

3/7/24, 12:26 pm - +Frankie Wee: <Media omitted>

3/7/24, 12:31 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. To solve a seeming unsolvable relentless gigantic conflicts - is to take small step one at a time.

2. 1st acknowledge both sides have a right to existence.

3. 2nd acknowledge there are strong wills from both sides to achieve lasting peace.

3. 3rd acknowledge there must be a place of 2 secure places with secure borders to coexist peacefully.

4. 4th Then identified holy places that are important to the various faiths - and assign ownership accordingly.

5. For holy sites that overlap, acknowledge and find ways to carve out parts that can be assign ownership to the various faiths.

6. 5th seek UN resolution to cement negotiated solutions to be enshrined with constitution in the UN.

3/7/24, 12:47 pm - +Darius Lee: Under the Oslo Accords, there are a number of topics which are pending "permanent status negotiations". These include "Jerusalem, refugees, settlements, security arrangements, border, relations and cooperation with their neighbors, and other issues of common interest" (Article V(3) of the Israel-Palestine Liberation Organization Agreement : 1993)

https://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/isrplo.as

There are numerous issues that are still outstanding, which go beyond statehood itself. These will need to be resolved.

3/7/24, 12:48 pm - +Rama: Corruption governance

3/7/24, 12:48 pm - +Darius Lee: As for what amounts to a "state" under international law, the Montevideo Convention on the Rights and Duties of States is generally the point of reference.

Under Article 1 of the Convention, the state as a person of international law should possess the following qualifications:

a. a permanent population;

b. a defined territory;

c. government; and

d. capacity to enter into relations with the other states.

3/7/24, 12:48 pm - +Frankie Wee: Yes

3/7/24, 12:49 pm - +Frankie Wee: I believe Palestinian ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ can’t be freedom or else mindset can be terror threat group

3/7/24, 12:50 pm - +Rama: Ungrateful to Jordan and Saudi Arabia in the past!

3/7/24, 12:53 pm - +Rama: Involved in assassination of then Jordan pm and occupied the black stone holy site in Saudi Arabia for two weeks!

3/7/24, 1:02 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. Actually what happen in Israel and Palestine is non of our business - they are equivalent to territorial dispute happening in many other countries.

2. It shouldn't stoke our domestic harmony among the different races in our country.

3. What makes other people business to become our problem is the respective faiths and the holy places that are tie to how our respective group  people worship.

4. Hence what happen in Israel and Palestine - now also become our business and the need to find solutions to end this thousands years of hatred and endless conflicts.

5. Can this be resolved in our lifetime and not let it pass down to future generations?

6. Possible if all sides muster the resolve with goodwill to solve it once and for all.

7. The ingredients for success must be:-

a. Give and take

b. Empathy - able to see from one another viewpoints and step into one another's shoes.

c. Strong desires to forge lasting peace and never attempt to harm one another.

I thought religions is about peace, compassion and salvation into blissful lives on passing.

This is real Divine.

Killing one another divine meh?

3/7/24, 1:32 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Our government position is sound and I support.

It will even be better if Israel and Palestine  emulate how Singapore forge racial and religious harmony, mutual respect, give and take, mutual spaces for worship.

We learn military protection from Israel.

Israel and Palestine can learn inclusive Religions practices, coexistence and mutual respect from us.

Key is give and take.

3/7/24, 1:35 pm - +Kenneth Lee WM: Hamas is not a religion.

They are an elected gov in Gaza. Instead of bettering the lives of the electorate, they funnel huge majority of the aid to weapons.

3/7/24, 1:53 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

The ability for both sides to accommodate one another is Divine.

Because it is about 1 Humanity.

Not label as A, B, C.

3/7/24, 1:55 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

If label as A is better than B.

Or C better than the rest are not Divine.

In the eyes of Divine, all humanity well being must be look after.

Only then this is Divine.

3/7/24, 3:07 pm - +~l or Smiley face: _*Historical Context:*_

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has its roots in the early 20th century, with the rise of Zionism and the displacement of Palestinians during the creation of Israel in 1948. The conflict has escalated over the years, with numerous wars, diplomatic efforts, and failed peace talks. The international community has been involved in various attempts to resolve the conflict, including the establishment of the Palestinian Authority in 1994 and the launch of the Middle East peace process.

_*Singapore's Foreign Policy:*_

Singapore's foreign policy is guided by its commitment to international law, multilateralism, and regional cooperation. The country has consistently supported the Palestinian cause and has called for a two-state solution. Singapore has also been involved in various international efforts to resolve the conflict, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

_*A Significant Development:*_

Singapore's recognition of Palestine as a state when an effective government is in place is a significant development in the country's foreign policy. This move demonstrates Singapore's commitment to international law and its support for a two-state solution. It also highlights Singapore's desire to play a more active role in international affairs and to contribute to the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

3/7/24, 4:26 pm - +~l or Smiley face: Ultimately, a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict requires a collective effort from the international community, including recognition of Palestine's sovereignty, support for a two-state solution, and pressure on Israel to negotiate in good faith.

The United States' geographical position, characterized by its expansive coastline and navigable rivers, has afforded a considerable advantage in international trade, enabling the efficient transportation of goods and services to and from global markets. This strategic location has been a crucial factor in the country's trade history, which spans over four centuries. From its inception as a colonial power to its current status as a global economic hegemon, trade has played a pivotal role in shaping the United States' economic trajectory and global influence.

Long Long Time Ago?

Global trade has been the lifeblood of human civilisation for centuries, shaping economies, cultures, and societies in profound ways. From the ancient Silk Road to modern-day container ships, trade has played a vital role in connecting nations and fostering economic growth. Yet, as we navigate the complexities of global trade, it is essential to consider its multifaceted nature, delving beyond the surface level to uncover the intricate web of social, environmental, and economic implications.

The safety of public buses here will be scrutinised by a task force that will be led by newly minted Minister of State for Transport Murali Pillai. This comes on the heels of a spate of accidents involving public buses.

The task force, comprising representatives from government agencies, the National Transport Workers’ Union, all four public bus operators and the Singapore Road Safety Council, aims to complete its review by early 2025, said Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat on July 1.

๐Ÿ’ฌ *What are your thoughts on the task force on bus safety? What more can be done to enhance the public transport network while ensuring the road safety of everyone?*

Minister Chee said in a Facebook post that the review will identify ways for the bus industry to make further improvements, building on safety initiatives and practices put in place over the years. He noted that the annual number of serious accidents involving public buses in Singapore has remained stable in the past few years. There were 75 such accidents in the first five months of 2024, compared with 207 in the whole of 2023 and 207 in the whole of 2022.

“Safety is a key priority for our public transport network,” Minister Chee said.

In response to queries, Tower Transit and SMRT said they will work closely with the task force, while SBST expressed commitment towards enhancing safety with the tripartite group. The three operators also pointed to existing safety initiatives, such as structured training for new drivers, safe driving incentives and investments in technology like fatigue and collision warning systems.

MOS Murali will look after some land transport matters such as transport technologies and public bus services as well.

2/7/24, 10:28 am - +Kenneth Lee WM: Rd safety is more than just bus safety. It has to do with rd layout, signages etc as well. I hope they will look in totality.

Even the people evaluating safety feedback . Eg i reported in Oneservice issue 20240508-0900; a new island was set up at a junction. Was hard to see when turning, mounted kerb. Asked for pillars to be put up so can see corners. LTA evaluator say everything ok after sending someone to observe. I looked at kerb, it showed signs of abrasion. Obviously I was not the only one. What planet was that evaluator from? What was the guy observing?

It’s no wonder we hv issues. Instead of looking at at “obvious” clues, LTA sends someone to stand there for a couple of hours and then says all is ok because that person didn’t witness any issue.

2/7/24, 1:30 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. Most of the times based on my observations, bus captains in public buses are always mindful and careful when driving the buses.

2. As compare to many years ago.

3. They will sometimes wait for people when people are quite far away from the bus stop flagging the bus.

4. Many bus captains are also helpful in handicap on wheelchair or PMA.

5. However, i feel that what can trigger an accident to public buses could be fatigue that sets in.

6. Being humans, fatigue after a long day could take its toll and trigger a momentary loss of concentration or misjudgment that cause an accident.

7. As bus captains not only need to drive the bus that is long and big, ensure passengers board and alight safely, pay the fare, manage crowded bus, assist wheelchair bound passengers etc.

8. Hence, technologies maybe necessary to assist the bus captains to avoid accidents during the lapse of concentration.

2/7/24, 1:39 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. I recall ST Engineering - specifically ST Kinetics have a full range of technologies that can be deployed to make public buses safer and is a good helping hands to the bus captains in time of emergency.

2. ST Kinetics is heavily involved in autonomous driverless cars (development , pilot test etc) - that involves a vast array of technologies such as LIDAR sensors, Radar, camera for image recognition, GPS, ultrasonic sensors, anti-collision or avoidance system.

3. In addition, ST Kinetics also build Hunter APC and the new Hunter APC with cutting edge network, sensors and combat management system - that automate many complex combat operations.

4. Hence I believe, if some of this cost effective technologies are apply to public buses - safety and accidents can be greatly reduced if not eradicated.

2/7/24, 1:41 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

5. Among other technologies deployed also include AR (Augmented Reality), AI to train on the routes of the public roads, and work with 5G comms. <This message was edited>\

2/7/24, 1:50 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

6. Of course other measures as highlighted by the Ministers such as structured driving course for bus drivers, safety course etc are important for drivers to be trained to operate in tandem with the new technologies, while at the same time inculcate safe driving into their work.

2/7/24, 1:55 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

But with more technologies deployed, it will means higher capital cost per bus.

Sweden's Vision Zero approach prioritises safety over speed, resulting in a 45% reduction in road fatalities between 2006 and 2019. Japan and South Korea have also made significant strides in road safety:

- Japan: Implemented elderly-friendly road design, cognitive tests for drivers over 75, and limited driver's licences for those with impaired cognitive functions.

- South Korea: Introduced a Road Safety Master Plan (2020-2024), elderly friendly road design, smart road technology, and strict vehicle safety standards.

- Australia's pedestrian safety campaigns have reduced pedestrian fatalities by 23% since 2018. These examples demonstrate the effectiveness of proactive road safety measures.

2/7/24, 2:34 pm - +Kenneth Lee WM: To add, in recent cases, it was also tragically due to pedestrians jay walking. Crossing where it was convenient for them with no regard to traffic.

As far as possible, LTA should get feedback (not wait for accident to happen) where those places are, and put in zebra crossings/ traffic lights. Not spend effort to justify why things should stay the way it is.

2/7/24, 2:40 pm - +Kenneth Lee WM: I can’t imagine what would happen if vandals spray painted the rd with alternate markings!

2/7/24, 2:41 pm - +Frankie Wee: https://www.straitstimes.com/forum/letters-on-the-web/one-dimensional-approach-used-to-select-street-lights

I would like to share about street light whole road in Singapore.

It will be developing use of connecting on to root bus travel timing. As we will know delay arrival onboard real time.

2/7/24, 2:42 pm - +Andy: If I'm not mistaken all the bus drivers have KPI to follow strictly like what time must arrive that's why u see sometimes the driver drive very slowly and waiting at the bus stop while nobody is there or driving faster than normal when they are pressed for time.

Also can the authorities check those drivers involved in the accidents, how many are foreigners(Malaysian who stays in JB travelling in/out to work as fatigue can lead to accidents), locals, age/gender group, how many days of working/overtime prior to the accident as lack of rest may result in lack of concentration, with data then can cater to effective training/refresher course.

And what is the pay of our bus captains, please pay them fairly so they don't have to depend on overtime to earn a decent amount. They have huge responsibility to get all passengers safely to the destination and at the same time got to ensure not to be involved in accident. Pilot is paid much more flying a plane carrying passenger, our bus captains daily ferries hundreds of passengers we need to pay them right.

Also when any driver is involved in any accidents, can the press refrain from using the driver is arrested. Just say driver is assisting in the investigation. Anyone can enlighten me if a driver is not at fault at all but there is injuries or fatality, he/she will still need to be jailed, fined or both. If so is very unfair to the driver. Sometimes is the fault of the pedestrian, cyclist, ebiker etc. Need to review the law if is the case.

2/7/24, 2:44 pm - +Frankie Wee: Hopefully developing will make it safe road

2/7/24, 2:45 pm - +~l or Smiley face: To relook at reward systems for public bus drivers. Incentives and bonuses to be part of Safety KPI and less off "meeting the timeline" !

2/7/24, 2:45 pm - +~l or Smiley face: _Best Practices for an Ageing Society_

Germany's elderly mobility programmes provide training and resources for older drivers. Canada's senior driver assessment and training programmes aim to improve driving skills and safety awareness. The UK's road safety strategies for older drivers focus on education and awareness campaigns. These initiatives demonstrate the importance of addressing age related challenges in road safety policies.

2/7/24, 2:47 pm - +~l or Smiley face: *I. Safety*

As Singapore's population ages, road safety becomes an increasingly pressing concern. The recent spate of accidents involving public buses highlights the need for a comprehensive review of road safety measures. This essay argues that ensuring road safety requires a delicate balance between safety measures, surety of convenience, and sanity of behaviour, particularly in an ageing society.

2/7/24, 2:51 pm - +Rama: Split shifts is a contributing factor for driver fatigue

2/7/24, 2:53 pm - +~l or Smiley face: _The Intersection of Age and Safety_

Singapore's ageing population presents unique challenges to road safety. Older adults are more vulnerable to injuries and fatalities due to decreased physical and cognitive abilities. Moreover, age-related declines affect their perception, reaction time, and decision-making skills, making them more susceptible to accidents. Therefore, inclusive road design and infrastructure are crucial to ensure safe mobility for all.

The floating or suspension technologies only witness coming out from China.

Didn't see it anywhere in other parts of the world eg. High tech countries like USA and Europe.

Thought it will be interesting to LTA rail engineers to explore as it doesn't involve fixed track.

But Singapore MRT and LRT very developed everywhere already.

Not much room to explore such floating or suspension technologies.

Underground mainly use by MRT.

Need to aircon.

More costly for bus.

Can be used as bomb shelter - secondary used.

Need signal control to avoid accidents - very difficult to extricate.

MRT has autonomous signalling system and collision avoidance in build.

Also safer with fixed track.

Bus don't have. <This message was edited>

2/7/24, 3:35 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Imagine if multiple buses involve in an accident underground.

Extrication will be very challenging.

MRT have very stringent command, control, communication and signaling systems.

Thales (a defence companies) that developed very complex command control communication and signaling systems for military, navy, air defence is our supplier of the MRT - with many safety and security features build in - to control precise movement of simultaneous train.

Buses in underground don't have such a system - and hence prone to accidents - and extrication will be a nightmare underground.

Worst if fire occurs.

Don't know how to escape - without turning roasted meat. <This message was edited>

2/7/24, 3:36 pm - +Rama: Similar to expressway tunnels

The last mile are heavily build up HDB, condo or office space.

LIDAR sensors can detect clear air turbulence - to alert pilots to warn passengers and crews to return to their seats and fasten the seat belts to avoid air turbulence.

Nowadays, air turbulence is getting more common - and it cause injuries to passengers and crews.

I feel that Airlines should pressure aircraft manufacturers to install LIDAR sensors for all aircraft for the safety of human on board.

Nowadays, feeder buses that service the last mile - often ply the build up areas with very limited space for underground bus. <This message was edited>

2/7/24, 5:16 pm - +~l or Smiley face: _*Monetary Awards*_

Recognising and rewarding bus drivers for their dedication, safety record, and excellent service is a wonderful way to motivate and incentivise them. The tiered award system provides a clear path for drivers to strive for, with increasing rewards for their years of service and commitment to safety and excellence.

_Reward Structure:_

-   5 years: up to $5,000

- 10 years: up to $10,000

- 15 years: up to $15,000

- 20 years: up to $20,000

- 25 years: up to $25,000

- 30 years: up to $30,000

With a potential cumulative award of $105,000 after 30 years of service, this program demonstrates a significant investment in recognising and rewarding drivers' hard work and dedication.

Requirements that include safety, work attitudes, public compliments, minor accidents, and no major accidents ensure that drivers are held to high standards, aligning with the organisation's goals and values.

2/7/24, 5:19 pm - +Dan: Road safety has always been an issue for all road users.

We have seen a rise of PMDs, delivery workers, cyclists on the road. There are riders and pedestrians not following safety protocol, riding against traffic, not wearing safety gear. You can feel that drivers are getting increasingly impatient, and easily triggered(try horning them)

Bus drivers are getting the brunt side because their job requires them to be on the road most of the time. Thats probability talking,

2/7/24, 5:24 pm - +Dan: I agree with another member of this group to look into the road signs and structures and see if they are bus worthy.

I would like to add one more to the list. The red bus lanes. Some of these lanes made it really difficult for some of the cars to make a left turn. I think we need to take a look at these bus lanes and made them more feasible for all road users. Otherwise it will be a hazard for all.

2/7/24, 5:26 pm - +Dan: I agree to this.

By endorsing Palestine's right to statehood, Singapore may encourage other ASEAN nations to follow suit, potentially leading to a significant shift in the regional balance of power. This move could isolate Israel diplomatically, intensifying international pressure to resolve the conflict through a two-state solution. Additionally, Singapore's recognition may bolster the Palestinian leadership's negotiating position, enabling them to pursue a more equitable and sustainable peace agreement. Likewise, it may inspire greater regional cooperation and dialogue"_

Temple Mount mark the ascend of Muslim Prophet.

If both can settle this with goodwill - then permanent peace will come.

Else Israel and Palestine will be a permanent place of no ending conflict.

2/7/24, 6:24 pm - +Rama: Like I said, Islam came second to the temple Mount so reason not valid!

2/7/24, 6:25 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

On Jun 28 (Fri), PM Wong shared about how Singapore can improve its tourism competitiveness at the Singapore Tourism Board’s (STB) annual Singapore Tourism Awards. He noted that Singapore will need to play to its strengths and be more imaginative, all while keeping the human touch to keep its tourism competitive.

๐Ÿ’ฌ *What are your views on Singapore's tourism industry? How else can Singapore build on its strengths to keep up with tourism competition in the region?*

PM Wong noted that the country has come a long way in developing tourism, but travellers today have many options and Singapore cannot be complacent.

One strategy is to build on Singapore’s strengths, including its history, its position as a business hub and its connectivity, PM Wong said.

“We can’t be all things to all people... We should focus on our Singapore Story – how people from diverse backgrounds have come together as one, and how we have worked together to transform this place from mudflats to metropolis,” he said.

PM Wong also shared that the other ways Singapore can bolster its appeal is to develop more “imaginative projects”. Several has already been in the pipeline, including new attractions of eco resort and Rainforest Wild at Mandai Wildlife Reserve.

1/7/24, 2:01 pm - +REACH: *๐Ÿ“ข Topic ๐Ÿ“ข*

1/7/24, 2:04 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. Singapore is a little red dot, with short history. There is very little natural landscape or long heritage to wow foreign tourists and keep a sustained tourism. Unlike bigger Countries with natural landscape tourist spots and rich heritage due to long history.

2. Hence we must play to our strength as rightly pointed out by our PM:

a. Refurbished current tourist spots

b. Build new tourist attraction, new imagination, new landscape, new concepts, new ideas

c. Leverage on our strong connectivity as air hub, port hub, comms hub, ecommerce hubs, manufacturing hub, financial hub, tourism hub etc

d. Vibrant business, trade, investment (MICE events) and diplomatic connection (such as Shangrila-Security dialogue, ADMM+, Airshows, F1, etc.

e. Identify internationally famous artiste concert eg. Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Black Pink etc. to attract foreign tourists.

1/7/24, 2:11 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

3. The above events will likely to attract high-heeled tourists - as business tourists, F1, MICE events, concert tourism will attract well-endowed foreign tourists with deeper pockets to visit Singapore - that will bring good tourism receipts as they spend in hotels, F&B, tourism attraction, tour bus services, private hire, taxis etc.

Hence despite Singapore being an expensive city, such premium tourists will still be able to visit our land and spend lavishly.

1/7/24, 2:32 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

4. However, the mass walk-in tourists that are budget conscious will be strain by our high cost environment - as our hotel stay, food prices, transport cost, souvenir etc will be higher compare to our regional competitors.

5. Despite the lower spending power of the mass budget conscious tourists, the mass walk-in tourists will still be a source of more sustainable tourist revenue source.

6. Hence, a more deliberate package budget tourist attraction can be marketed to budget foriegn tourists.

1/7/24, 2:34 pm - +Terrie Wong: Yes: The vital few & the important many concept.

1/7/24, 2:37 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ: <Media omitted>

1/7/24, 2:37 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ: <Media omitted>

1/7/24, 2:40 pm - +GLCM: Tourist attractions in sg typically will support Singaporeans and create job opportunities. Hence the impact will be two prong if we ensure their profitability. Enhance SG as an air hub as pointed out earlier and also sustain locals with employment.

So if we can tie up promotions linking local air carriers and local tourist attractions, it can benefit the entire tourism and aviation ecosystem.

Similarly, local tour agencies may benefit if tourists sign up with them to head into neighbouring countries for a short  getaway. (Using unique promo codes)

1/7/24, 2:54 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

7. Eg. of a more budget conscious tourist package could be budget airlines, budget hotel, Airbnb, budget F&B, budget tourism spots eg. city tour, Merlion, Marina Bay, Garden By the Bay, Changi Airport Gems, Tree Top walk, East Coast Beach, Lavendar Park, etc

8. Though budget travellers will not spend as lavishly, they will still spend in budget airfares, budget hotel, transport, F&B food and drinks, buy some smaller token souvenirs, etc.

9. This will create jobs for our tourism sectors as revealed by the tourism receipts in 2023 - $27.2 billion with 13.6 million foreign visitors - not a small sum of money.

10. Refurbished tourist spots, and new tourists attractions are necessary to attract return visitors - as visitors want to see "new" reimagined attractions - else there will only be one time visitors who will not return to visit Singapore - if attractions become stale.

1/7/24, 3:29 pm - +Bhavani: Hi tru blu Singaporeans are already facing unbearable crowds. Bringing in more tourists will only lead to more waste generation. From what I have read in media articles, we have already lost 95 percent of forests.   We must not forget that consumerism leads to waste generation and tourists are also contributing to overcrowded trains. This overcrowding could be contributing to train breakdowns.

1/7/24, 3:29 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

11. We can also establish ourselves as cruise hub by working with cruise ships to berth at our cruise hub - with one or few days stay in our hotels and city tours or tourists spots tour.

12. As cruise tourists are also premium tourists with deep pockets.

1/7/24, 3:30 pm - +Bhavani: Having too many cruise ships on our pure waters could lead to environmental instability <This message was edited>

1/7/24, 3:30 pm - +Bhavani: Deep pockets doesn't mean they are environmentally friendly

1/7/24, 3:32 pm - +Bhavani: In this age of climate change and global warming, it is hypocritical to talk about deep pockets.

1/7/24, 3:36 pm - +Rama: Controlled tourist numbers is tricky.  As for 95% of our forest gone,  data from which credible source!?

1/7/24, 3:36 pm - +Rama: Believe government is not just chasing tourism without due consideration

1/7/24, 3:37 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

At one hand, someone say cannot find job.

At another hand, someone say government did not give sufficient financial help.

At 3rd hand, some one say don't want so many development, don't want tourists, want environment, want no development.

Wonder, why someone can be so contradictory.

1/7/24, 3:37 pm - +Rama: Government is doing its part

1/7/24, 3:38 pm - +~l or Smiley face: *The Tourism Industry: It's more than just another holiday, another place, and another day*

"_Reimagining Travels & Tours: it all begins when individuals arrive in a new country. The airport, the country's front door, sets the tone for the entire journey. The first impression is crucial, as it shapes the tourist's experience and perception of the country and its people. From swift and effective immigration processes to mesmerising duty-free shopping experiences, and even the aroma in the arrival and departure areas - including the crucial aroma of clean and well-maintained toilets. It all matters! It's not just about maintaining a world-class airport, both inside and out, but also about shifting our mindset away from the extremes of cheapest costs and highest costs. Let's right-size and right-place our Singapore (SG) to target our tourists and their dynamics, which are always changing. We must stay vigilant and adapt, for the tourism landscape is ever-evolving. And let's not forget the ultimate goals: For when tourists become repeat visitors, migrants, and investors, all of which can bring immense value to our country. We know we have succeeded in creating a truly unforgettable experience. Let's be forewarned and stay ahead of the curve, to ensure a memorable and enriching journey for our visitors, and a future where our nation continues to shine as a vibrant hub of hospitality, innovation, and endless possibility. Importantly, not just another holiday, another place, and just another day!_"

1/7/24, 3:41 pm - +Bhavani: Hi everyone here has a valid opinion, not just you

1/7/24, 3:47 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Singapore greenery and reserve forest is 46.5%.

1/7/24, 3:48 pm - +Bhavani: Tourists add to the rubbish that locals generate

1/7/24, 3:48 pm - +Rama: Your statement doesn't hold much water!

1/7/24, 3:48 pm - +Bhavani: There is rubbish everywhere. How can you say that my statement does not hold water?

1/7/24, 3:49 pm - +Rama: Locals are not reproducing fast enough for a aeging population

1/7/24, 3:49 pm - +Bhavani: Look at all the overflowing rubbish bins. Look at the rat situation.

1/7/24, 3:49 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Anyway she is a very small minority who want Singapore to be a kampong, underdeveloped, poor economically.

Majority don't agree with her.

1/7/24, 3:50 pm - +Bhavani: Look I'm not a small minority go to facebook and other forums and see how many people are complaining about the crowds

1/7/24, 3:51 pm - +Bhavani: We have been talking about the economy ever since I was born!

1/7/24, 3:51 pm - +Andy: As a taxi driver, I often picked up tourists from the airport. Some will asked me where should they visit and what must eat in Singapore. I'm sure I'm not the only taxi driver or PHV driver being asked by tourist.

Maybe tourism board can engaged interested taxi/PHV driver to take up a simple tour guide course using our skills future fund to pay for it. Thereafter we can be the tour guide for 2-4 pax, it can be a hawker centres hopping instead of cafe hopping, nature trail walks like bukit timah hill instead of orchard road, haw par villa which I think not many tourists know about, geylang seria/join chiat area with rich heritage and great food. These are just some examples. So for taxi/PHV drivers who want to be a tour guide, we must attend the simple tour guide course by tourism board, pass the test or exam and be able to write 2-3 tour packages for tourism board to approve.

When I visited placolike Taipei, Bangkok, Seoul many taxi drivers will asked if we want to go for day trip and charge a fee. I think they are not regulated. So if Singapore can do it with regulation, we drivers can be the unique tour guide where big tour companies cannot or won't catered and for tourists to go about is tough.

1/7/24, 3:52 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Job, economy, cost of living, are top of Singaporeans concern.

So the effort is to make Singapore economy vibrant, business buoyant and create more high value added jobs.

1/7/24, 3:52 pm - +Rama: But you only start to dialogue at what age!?

1/7/24, 3:53 pm - +Bhavani: Hi we are not benefitting from tourist numbers. We are forced to pay increasing utilities bill

1/7/24, 3:53 pm - +Rama: You misunderstanding the issues

1/7/24, 3:54 pm - +Bhavani: Hi you and Danny are the ones gravely twisting the issues to your whims and fancies and not letting anyone else share their valid views. <This message was edited>

1/7/24, 3:55 pm - +Bhavani: and not allowing anyone else to share their valid views

1/7/24, 3:56 pm - +Rama: Only Megan can control the sharing and no one else

1/7/24, 3:56 pm - +Bhavani: I have seen people being calm when there is lack of overcrowding. This makes people more creative.

1/7/24, 3:56 pm - +Rama: We in each own way are challenging your hypothesis

1/7/24, 3:56 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

You can share your points.

But whether people agree with you or not is another thing.

What you say, I don't agree with you - because your points are contradictory.

1/7/24, 3:57 pm - +Rama: Our circumstances without natural resources are limited and stacked against us

1/7/24, 3:57 pm - +Bhavani: You are not challenging fairly but just for its own sake. I read about rubbish and rats often and am telling the truth

1/7/24, 3:57 pm - +Rama: We too are reading the same

1/7/24, 3:57 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Most important thing, many Singaporeans will not benefit from what you have suggested.

1/7/24, 3:58 pm - +Bhavani: Why must we always think that overcrowding are resources? We don't get anything from overcrowding except lack of creativity, stress, quarrels and arguments

1/7/24, 3:58 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Many Singaporeans will go back to poverty if based on what you say.

1/7/24, 3:59 pm - +Bhavani: Most importantly, many people will be gravely affected by your overemphasis on the economy

1/7/24, 3:59 pm - +Rama: Your comments can apply in 1965, not in 2024

1/7/24, 3:59 pm - +Bhavani: Look I practice what I preach

1/7/24, 3:59 pm - +Rama: Which is!?

1/7/24, 3:59 pm - +Bhavani: I live a minimal lifestyle

1/7/24, 4:01 pm - +Rama: We all try

1/7/24, 4:22 pm - +~l or Smiley face: *I. Global*

The tourism industry has experienced unprecedented growth, with international tourist arrivals reaching 1.4 billion in 2022 (World Tourism Organisation, 2022). However, this growth has also brought challenges, such as environmental degradation, cultural homogenisation, and economic inequality. To remain competitive and sustainable, Singapore must embrace innovation, sustainability, and creative thinking. Let's explore the macro and micro trends shaping the tourism industry, Singapore's unique strengths, and actionable solutions to transform our country's tourism landscape.

*II. Macro Trends*

_A. Global Tourism Growth_

- In 2022, international tourist arrivals reached 1.4 billion, with a forecast of 2.5 billion by 2030 (World Tourism Organization, 2022)

- Asia and the Pacific region accounted for 44% of international tourist arrivals in 2022, with China, Japan, and South Korea leading the way (World Tourism Organisation, 2022)

1/7/24, 4:24 pm - +Rama: We are a country with no natural resources but we have done amazing things since 1965 and the international community holds us in very high regards for our achievements in such a short span of time!

1/7/24, 4:24 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

But she wants to drag us back into poverty.

1/7/24, 4:25 pm - +Rama: Will never happen ever!

1/7/24, 4:25 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

And then she complains no one gives her job.

Very contradicting.

1/7/24, 4:27 pm - +~l or Smiley face: _B. Digitalisation and Online Booking_

- Online travel agencies like Expedia, and Airbnb have transformed the way tourists plan and book their trips

- In 2022, online travel bookings accounted for 57% of total travel bookings, with a forecast of 65% by 2025 (Statista, 2022)

_C. Sustainable Tourism Practices_

- The Singapore Tourism Board's "Singapore Eco-Tourism Programme" has encouraged tourism businesses to adopt sustainable practices

- The program has resulted in a 25% reduction in carbon emissions and a 30% reduction in water consumption among participating businesses (Singapore Tourism Board, 2022)

1/7/24, 4:30 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Wonder how to treat such feedback seriously?

1/7/24, 4:31 pm - +Rama: Remember the tears of our dearly departed MM LKY when we had to leave the Federation of Malaysia way back then! It was a grit resolve to bring people and country Forward!

1/7/24, 4:32 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

That's why important not to let our development and progress be destroy by people's ignorance.

1/7/24, 5:07 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Good ideas.

1/7/24, 5:17 pm - +~l or Smiley face: _"Yes, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the current global economic outlook is forecast to grow at 3.2% in 2024 and 2025, which is the same pace as in 2023. The current global economic outlook is indeed less robust compared to 2019, and this slowdown is expected to impact various sectors, including tourism and consumer expenditures."_

-- anonymity

- The growth in advanced economies is expected to increase from 1.6% in 2023 to 1.7% in 2024 and 1.8% in 2025.

- Emerging market and developing economies are expected to experience a modest slowdown from 4.3% in 2023 to 4.2% in both 2024 and 2025.

- Global inflation is expected to decline steadily, from 6.8% in 2023 to 5.9% in 2024 and 4.5% in 2025.

- About 80% of the world's population will experience slower economic growth in 2024 compared to the pre-COVID decade.

_Global growth is projected to slow down:_

The IMF and World Bank expect global growth to slow down in 2024 and 2025, with a forecast of 3.2% and 3.1%, respectively.

_Inflation remains a concern:_ Despite a decline in inflation rates, they remain above pre-pandemic levels, and central banks are likely to maintain a cautious stance.

-_Consumer expenditures are cautious:_ High debt levels, elevated debt servicing costs, and uncertainty surrounding the economic outlook are leading consumers to be cautious with their expenditure.

_Tourism impacted:_

The slowdown in global economic growth and cautious consumer behaviour will likely impact the tourism industry, leading to reduced travel and expenditure.

_Risks remain:_

Downside risks, including geopolitical tensions, trade fragmentation, higher-for-longer interest rates, and climate-related disasters, could further impact the global economic outlook.

Despite the current slow global economics, Singapore's tourism industry can still seize opportunities to develop its capabilities and emerge stronger.

_*Strategies*_

1. Diversification: Expand offerings beyond traditional tourist attractions.

2. Innovation: Invest in digital solutions, virtual tours, and augmented reality experiences to enhance visitor engagement and attract tech-savvy travelers.

3. Sustainability: Emphasize eco-tourism initiatives, green tourism products, and responsible travel practices to appeal to environmentally conscious visitors.

4. Collaboration: Foster partnerships between tourism stakeholders, local businesses, and communities to create authentic experiences and job opportunities.

5. Skills Development: Upskill tourism professionals through training programs, workshops, and certifications to enhance service quality and expertise.

6. Marketing: Leverage social media, influencer partnerships, and targeted campaigns to reach new audiences and reposition Singapore as a vibrant, resilient destination.

7. Infrastructure Development: Invest in sustainable infrastructure, such as green hotels, eco-friendly transportation, and community-based projects.

8. Niche Marketing: Focus on specific segments like wellness tourism, educational travel, or luxury cruise travel to differentiate Singapore from other destinations.

9. Community Engagement: Engage locals in tourism development through crowdsourcing ideas, community-based initiatives, and inclusive decision-making processes.

10. Research and Development: Continuously monitor industry trends, conduct market research, and analyze visitor feedback to stay competitive and innovative.

1/7/24, 5:22 pm - +Bhavani: Hi we have to stop praising ourselves snd address a lot of issues

1/7/24, 5:23 pm - +Bhavani: Inflation is caused by too much demand for products, services by an overpopulation that needs to be controlled

1/7/24, 5:24 pm - +Bhavani: This is the reason for the high price of many things even basic things as food, medical and utlities

1/7/24, 5:25 pm - +Bhavani: I would like to know how we are developed now that everybody is competing for limited resources

1/7/24, 5:26 pm - +Bhavani: Do we want people to live in harmony and peace or do we want people to quarrel over limited resources? <This message was edited>

1/7/24, 5:27 pm - +Bhavani: Tourism is leading to the creation of non stop hotels. These hotels consume energy and water.

1/7/24, 5:27 pm - +Bhavani: The creation of too many buildings is itself not sustainable.

1/7/24, 5:34 pm - +Rama: Are you aware the government is planning for a population of 10M in the far future!?

1/7/24, 5:34 pm - +Bhavani: We need a more compassionate society that doesn't go after material wealth <This message was edited>

1/7/24, 5:35 pm - +Bhavani: This would be a total slap on the faces of true blue Singaporeans as we are already suffering from overcrowdedness and warming.

1/7/24, 5:35 pm - +Rama: Understand the practical issues first

1/7/24, 5:36 pm - +Bhavani: We paid taxes for so many years not to experience this overcrowdedness and warming especially in our elderly years.

Singapore's risk of sinking is lower compared to cities like New York City due to its solid bedrock foundation, careful urban planning, and well-managed land reclamation processes. Moreover, Singapore is proactively addressing sea level rise with measures like sea walls and flood protection infrastructure. While the risk is lower, continued vigilance and environmental stewardship remain essential.

New York City's susceptibility to sinking is attributed to a combination of factors, including its foundation on soft soil and sediment, high water table, and dense infrastructure. The city's ageing infrastructure and vulnerability to sea level rise further exacerbate the risk, making proactive investments in environmental resilience and infrastructure upgrades crucial to mitigating the threat of subsidence.

1/7/24, 5:43 pm - +Rama: This is no joke! Living expenses for the elderly have skyrocketed beyond the roof. Growing the economy and increasing the population is a direct necessity to alleviate!

1/7/24, 5:43 pm - +Rama: Not possible!

1/7/24, 5:44 pm - +Rama: You get young people to marry early and have at least four children each!?

1/7/24, 5:51 pm - +Bhavani: If we respect the environment, then we will be role models for other countries too

1/7/24, 5:51 pm - +Rama: Singapore is respected internationally for its efforts in combating climate change

1/7/24, 5:51 pm - +Rama: We are

1/7/24, 5:52 pm - +Bhavani: This is not enough. We must make our people happy

1/7/24, 5:52 pm - +Rama: We have to create our own niche of happiness

1/7/24, 5:52 pm - +Bhavani: Peaceful I mean. This is the key to preventing unrest.

1/7/24, 5:53 pm - +Rama: We have relevant laws for that

1/7/24, 5:53 pm - +Bhavani: We can't create our own niche when things on the ground are so bad.

1/7/24, 5:53 pm - +Bhavani: No we can't just rely on laws.

1/7/24, 6:01 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. The issue is not about worrying massive foreign tourists coming over and overcrowd Singapore infrastructure because :-

a. Availability of hotel rooms and accomodation - will be the equaliser to restrict how many foreign tourists can come into Singapore.

Without or unable to book a hotel stay - foreign tourists cannot come.

So the argument that foreign tourists will over crowd Singapore infrastructure is a flaw argument.

1/7/24, 6:01 pm - +Rama: Don't gives ideas without substance or foundation

1/7/24, 6:02 pm - +Bhavani: No communication here is encouraged. Why should I go to other ministries when I can give my feedback here

1/7/24, 6:02 pm - +Bhavani: You are the one talking with no substance and foundation whatsoever

1/7/24, 6:02 pm - +Rama: You still have a lot to learn about the working of government

1/7/24, 6:05 pm - +REACH: *๐Ÿ“ข Topic ๐Ÿ“ข*

1/7/24, 6:06 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

2. The challenge Singapore is facing - is the strong competitions for foreign tourists to come to Singapore - so that Singapore can boost our tourism economic sector and create more jobs.

3. Tourism is the economic sector - least threaten by AI - and has created many business and jobs for Singaporeans.

4. The moment we discourage foreign tourists - many people will lose jobs in airlines, air hubs, hotels, F&B, transport such as taxis, private hire, goods and services tourism related etc

And we will lose $27 over billion in GDP.

5. CNA just now broadcast that HK being a vibrant international business, finance and tourism city has lose its shine - and struggle to win it back - losing to many China cities and to ASEAN and regional countries.

Based on this lady suggestion - Singapore will be condemned going to the kampong age - whereby many people will lose jobs and income.

See, foreign countries are competing teeth and neck to wrestle tourism business from us

1/7/24, 6:08 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Yes we did.

Fortunately, we don't follow what this lady say.

1/7/24, 6:08 pm - +Rama: Thanks for great foresight by our government

1/7/24, 6:09 pm - +Rama: For the record,  I don't like Taylor Swift For religious reasons.

1/7/24, 6:09 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Has Hong Kong lost its way in the tourism business and is there a route back despite stiff competition from neighbouring cities?

More Hongkongers are heading to neighbouring Shenzhen for leisure, with some putting aside politics to embrace cheaper prices, better service and more options.

But mainland visitors are not returning to Hong Kong as much as expected, with cities across the border adding to the competition for tourists.

1/7/24, 6:10 pm - +Bhavani: Hi I know how the government works.

1/7/24, 6:11 pm - +Bhavani: As I often read articles

1/7/24, 6:11 pm - +Rama: A warning!

1/7/24, 6:11 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Competition is so steep and we cannot be complacent.

The moment we listen to this ignorant lady ideas - we will follow HK footsteps and hundred and thousands of people will lose their jobs.

1/7/24, 6:11 pm - +Rama: So do most of us

1/7/24, 6:11 pm - +Bhavani: Jobs need not be tourism jobs

1/7/24, 6:11 pm - +Bhavani: Jobs can also be AI based

1/7/24, 6:11 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

You are too naive.

1/7/24, 6:11 pm - +Rama: Jobs cover various sectors of our economy

1/7/24, 6:12 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Di you know AI?

1/7/24, 6:12 pm - +Rama: How about chatgpt!?

1/7/24, 6:12 pm - +Bhavani: No I dont know AI but I heard that AI robots will help the elderly in the future

1/7/24, 6:13 pm - +Bhavani: We have to create more environmental jobs

1/7/24, 6:13 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

So you are ignorant to give constructive advice.

1/7/24, 6:14 pm - +Bhavani: I'm not ignorant. I think you are really ignorant to keep harping on the economy every feedback session

1/7/24, 6:14 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

You are proposing something that you don't know.

1/7/24, 6:14 pm - +Rama: That's all!?

1/7/24, 6:14 pm - +Rama: How would we survive without a thriving economy!?

1/7/24, 6:14 pm - +Bhavani: AI from what I read are already being used in construction

1/7/24, 6:15 pm - +Rama: Much more than that!

1/7/24, 6:16 pm - +Bhavani: Look as someone practicing a minimal lifestyle aleady,I I know for example that we dont need luxury

1/7/24, 6:16 pm - +Bhavani: We don't need to eat out as we can cook ourselves.

1/7/24, 6:16 pm - +Rama: Not so easy, nowadays

1/7/24, 6:16 pm - +Rama: All of us!?

1/7/24, 6:17 pm - +Bhavani: Cooking is very simple you know?

1/7/24, 6:17 pm - +Rama: For lonely people with no family support!?

1/7/24, 6:17 pm - +Bhavani: If we spend hours on cooking, all the nutrients will escape into the air <This message was edited>

1/7/24, 6:17 pm - +Rama: You are way off!

1/7/24, 6:18 pm - +Bhavani: Cooking is simply stir frying when we have just 5 mins to spare

1/7/24, 6:19 pm - +Rama: For those with down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, physical handicap etc!?

1/7/24, 6:30 pm - +Bhavani: what about normal people why should they keep eating out and hurt their stomachs and wallets

1/7/24, 6:31 pm - +Rama: We all make our individual life choices

1/7/24, 6:31 pm - +Bhavani: And why should businesses keep prospering from consumers not only do they prosper what they serve to the people is mostly not healthy

1/7/24, 6:32 pm - +Bhavani: We can't keep saying indvidual choices we must look at the collective good

1/7/24, 6:33 pm - +Bhavani: When we encourage food establishments to thrive, we are also encouraging consumerism, waste generation, unhealthy food and drinks, crowdedness and pests

1/7/24, 6:34 pm - +Bhavani: This does not help anyone

1/7/24, 6:35 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. Then there is this argument that to attract foreign tourists - Government need to overbuild hotel infrastructure and lead to sinking of the city.

2. Government through URA, HDB, LTA and other housing planners has a central urban plan - how much HDB, condos, landed properties, industrial estates, offices, hotels, MRT, taxis, private hires and tourist attraction to build - based on the land spaces Singapore has.

3. Building and development are controlled - hence overcrowding is avoided. Sinking due to overbuild housing, hotel and infrastructure - is unlikely as engineering, architecting, soil study etc --- are well taken into account.

4. Moreover, 12 million to 14 million tourists visit - is well within STB plan's - reaping about $27 billion to $30 billion annually.

This is our projected and expected GDP generated by tourism - so that our infrastructure, accomodation - can accomodate the foreign tourists.

The notion of overcrowding and need to prevent tourism is simply flaw, based on this lady emotion - and not based on facts.

1/7/24, 6:35 pm - +Rama: They are duly taxed

1/7/24, 6:35 pm - +Rama: Only in communism which even doesn't work!

1/7/24, 6:35 pm - +Bhavani: Taxes can do nothing to help the environment

1/7/24, 6:36 pm - +Rama: Animals need to eat for us to consume later

1/7/24, 6:36 pm - +Bhavani: Whe they are taxed they simply pay but continue to generate waste

1/7/24, 6:36 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

5. Moreover a whopping 46.5% of the land space are used for forest and great conservation.

6. So the lady arguments of not environmentally friendly - is not based on facts.

1/7/24, 6:36 pm - +Rama: Know the current varied taxes first and what they can and are used for

1/7/24, 6:37 pm - +Bhavani: There are too many buildings

1/7/24, 6:37 pm - +Rama: The pocket hurts with too much inconsiderate taxes!

1/7/24, 6:37 pm - +Rama: Cannot go back to 1965 levels!

1/7/24, 6:38 pm - +Bhavani: Of course we can. We just need willpower

1/7/24, 6:38 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Well, just have to rebut all your points that don't make sense.

Then government and people can see which points make sense and which points don't.

1/7/24, 6:38 pm - +Rama: Our government has the willpower, determination and foresight.

1/7/24, 6:38 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ: <Media omitted>

1/7/24, 6:39 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Yah willpower that more beggars on the street. <This message was edited>

1/7/24, 6:39 pm - +Bhavani: Hi same to you. Let the government decide

1/7/24, 6:39 pm - +Rama: If you travel the world,  it can be shocking!

1/7/24, 6:39 pm - +Bhavani: There are already so many poor people today due to businesses profiteering from.the people

1/7/24, 6:40 pm - +Rama: Flawed without substance

1/7/24, 6:40 pm - +Bhavani: Stop talking as if you are the government

1/7/24, 6:40 pm - +Bhavani: Who are you to say my thinking is flawed

1/7/24, 6:40 pm - +Rama: We are the people lending our voices

1/7/24, 6:41 pm - +Bhavani: No you are the people pitting others down without valid reason!

1/7/24, 6:41 pm - +Rama: No basis for consideration

1/7/24, 6:41 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

She is the only lone voice here.

1/7/24, 6:41 pm - +Rama: Join the opposition then!

1/7/24, 6:41 pm - +Bhavani: As if your's has a basis

1/7/24, 6:42 pm - +REACH: Dear Contributors,

1/7/24, 6:48 pm - +Rama: ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿค

1/7/24, 6:49 pm - +Kenneth Lee WM: Don’t kernah snook by straits times.

There be are super duper high paying jobs that skew the median.

Should look at the mode.

If median is above $10k, everyone will easily hv minimum retirement sum in cpf.

1/7/24, 6:53 pm - +~.@: that's median household income, so probably 2 working adult combined amount

1/7/24, 6:53 pm - +~.@: so individually will be around 5.4k, and yes that's median so 50% lower than that

1/7/24, 6:54 pm - +Rama: Median cannot be sustained at the same level indefinitely

1/7/24, 6:55 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. The argument that more foreign tourist bring more rats.

2. Rats come not because of too much tourists.

3. Rats come because people don't bag their waste food.

4. With more waste food sources, rats will grow.

1/7/24, 6:56 pm - +Rama: Nonsense

1/7/24, 6:56 pm - +Rama: From the one who mentioned in the first place

1/7/24, 6:57 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Else China and India will be rat infested as both have 1.4 billion people.

1/7/24, 6:58 pm - ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

That's why all her arguments cannot stand water.

1/7/24, 6:59 pm - +~l or Smiley face: <Media omitted>

1/7/24, 6:59 pm - +Bhavani: Don't be ridiculous tourists generate waste

1/7/24, 6:59 pm - +~l or Smiley face: "Empowering the next generation of changemakers, and honoring the selfless bravery of our mighty SAF. Wishing an inspiring Youth Day and a proud salute to our nation's protectors!"
