The number of suicide cases in Singapore last year (2022) hit the highest in more than two decades. The Samaritans of Singapore (SOS), a non-profit suicide prevention agency, said in a statement on Tuesday that the number was a 25.9 per cent increase from 2021, with an uptick of 98 cases.

More than a quarter of the cases were among those aged 10 to 29 while individuals aged 70 to 79 registered the highest increase – 60 per cent – in suicide deaths compared to 2022.

πŸ’¬ *Do you think there’s sufficient support in place for mental health and wellbeing? How can we work together to provide better support to those who might need it?*

πŸ“Œ *_Calls for more volunteers_*

As the number of requests for help increases, agencies are seeking more volunteers to step forward to be trained to serve as touchpoints. Ms Charlene Heng, deputy director of Samaritans of Singapore’s’ training and development said “We hope to equip anyone – really literally anyone – with the first responder's skill so that anyone on the street can be a touchpoint to anyone going through emotional crisis, so that they may not (head to the point of suicide)”.

πŸ“Œ *_Engaging the youth_*

TOUCH Community Services, which has a number of programmes for struggling youths, is working to raise the number of young people who can serve as support for their friends. Ms Lucia Chow, a senior social worker at the charity said there is a need to equip the public better on how to spot signs and engage with those who are struggling. She also added that “A lot of (people) want to help, but they don't know how to. They don’t know what are the signs and symptoms of, for example, suicidal thoughts. They don't know how to approach people who struggle with that. They don't know how to start the conversation”.

πŸ“Œ *_Fighting the stigma_*

Non-profits such as SOS have also participated in “Beyond the Label”, a national programme aimed at reducing the stigma of mental health issues. They said that while the situation has improved over the past few years through educating, advocating and sharing by different partners in the community, stigma is still one of the main barriers that may stop people or their family members from seeking help.

13/09/2023, 10:26 am - +Frankie Wee: Money problem

Lover problem

depression problem

Shouldn’t Suicides attempt reason to live on or call SOS

13/09/2023, 10:28 am - +Smiley face: 13 September, 2023

" Good Morning, Singapore!"

"When a human lost all hopes and within the mind lies mountains of unconquerable challenges, engrained frustrations, and incompletions. All of these negativities and failures will escalate to the tipping point of suicides; to end one's life in any means and at any moment when the mind shuts down, all comms down, and the silenced world! Perhaps, that's the psychology of the end-of-life of a depressed human!"

- - anonymity

How to save lives? What are the opposing factors of challenges, frustrations and incompletions that led to the common ground of failures?

Success alone will not save lives and it is not good enough to hold the ground of sanity, in this (at times insane) world!

                - - in progress - -

13/09/2023, 10:29 am - +Frankie Wee: My ex-colleague was suicides at home die. because he found out his wife having affairs rich man and he know himself not great man in career in marriage.

13/09/2023, 10:31 am - +Frankie Wee: Money is everything and ownself to live

13/09/2023, 10:31 am - +Rama: Support services is stretched with limited staff. Awareness needs to be strengthened

13/09/2023, 10:33 am - +Rama: May his soul rest in peace for all eternity.

13/09/2023, 10:46 am - +Sunshine Pooh: It is disturbing to see the nos. of suicide deaths for the age grp 10-19.

13/09/2023, 10:47 am - +Sunshine Pooh: above 20 years individuals are matured thinkers - maybe emotional driven suicides. but to think that 10 year olds die from death is shocking and depressing.

13/09/2023, 10:49 am - +Frankie Wee: Person has self negative emotions.

Anyone can be there for them but the problem needs to be provide themselves live on. Because not everyone can support money they need.

13/09/2023, 10:50 am - +Rama: Agree

13/09/2023, 10:50 am - +Rama: These are our future!

13/09/2023, 10:51 am - +Sunshine Pooh: as far as we know there are counselors tagged to each school even pri level who do assess and work with the students once such students are picked up by the form teachers. however in a class of 40-40+ students it is difficult and many a times teachers do not even have the bandwidth or time to just sit back and observe each student. they become reactive only wen smthg happens

13/09/2023, 10:51 am - +Rama: Support staff to teaching staff ratio must be rational

13/09/2023, 10:53 am - +Sunshine Pooh: doubt the support staff end up helping the teachers. maybe a times maybe to help the principal and VP in their initiatives?

13/09/2023, 10:53 am - +Frankie Wee: Encouraging them what they are doing weekend spent lifestyle and outdoor. Bring them healthier lifestyle thinking of positive change

13/09/2023, 10:55 am - +Rama: All teaching staff who are discipline masters or Head od department and curriculum must be trained in counselling and preventive suicide attempts

13/09/2023, 10:55 am - +Frankie Wee: Japan history has highest rate suicides. Learned how they encourage to live on

13/09/2023, 10:55 am - +Sunshine Pooh: The pressure of exceling academically is a real thing. the education system has changed drastically - yes better for those in the lower spectrum of the curve. but for the above ave students.. the curve is steeper and the real stress sets in

13/09/2023, 10:55 am - +Rama: Are we studying them among others!?

13/09/2023, 10:56 am - +Rama: Emphasis on paper qualifications must be relooked for all round development!

13/09/2023, 10:57 am - +Frankie Wee: Singapore culture mixed race we can learn how to handle different from Japan

13/09/2023, 10:58 am - +Smiley face: Good morning, Andrew!

Good pointe!

 Face matters to Asians?

13/09/2023, 10:59 am - +Rama: Y

13/09/2023, 11:00 am - +Frankie Wee: How about victims fell scam and loss money everything left nothing to eat. He or she want suicides and regretted for wrongdoing.

13/09/2023, 11:00 am - +Sunshine Pooh: easier said than done. MOE has to look through the whole education system as 1 comprehensive exercise and not targeted based on the different levels.

the AL cut offs for many better secondary schools is stringent. fast forward, entrance to autonomous Uni is still largely through JC route. % of poly students given Uni placements is still low.

13/09/2023, 11:00 am - +Smiley face: Y

13/09/2023, 11:01 am - +Frankie Wee: As if I say

13/09/2023, 11:03 am - +Smiley face: Hi Sunshine!

Good point.

Do we have the % students after the completion of the 10 years of education (100%);  thereafter into ITE, Poly, JC, and Uni.

Thank you.

13/09/2023, 11:05 am - +Smiley face: Early detection, look out for INTROVERTS and ALONE students with least interactions with peers especially DURING BREAKS , aka recess time. Another scope is CCA, coach, instructions and teachers will see these outliers behavioral patterns!

Thanks, Andrew!

13/09/2023, 11:07 am - +Smiley face: Engage these students, sooner you will be able to 'size up' the possibilities of a student state of MENTAL HEALTH!

Discretional approach!

13/09/2023, 11:09 am - +Smiley face: Equal risk,

that's  boy : girl

Do not think either gender is a safer bet!

How about the alternate 'gender' behaviors that perhaps starting two years after puberty?

Natural instincts vs unnatural instincts!

13/09/2023, 11:11 am - +Smiley face: Secondary Two and onwards, watch it closely! Peak at 16-18

13/09/2023, 11:12 am - +Smiley face: Relook at the Sex Education module, looking for sensitive topics!

13/09/2023, 11:13 am - +Smiley face: " The fabric of the tangibles and the fantasy of the intangibles!"

13/09/2023, 11:14 am - +Bhavani: Hi teens should sleep for 9 to 11 hours according to medical advice. However, teens are sleeping only at  10.00 pm or 11.00 pm, getting up at 6.00 am due to non-stop homework. They have CCAs twice a week for 3 hours which leaves them no time to complete their homework so they try to catch up by staying up late on other days which places unbearable stress on them. Moreover, for teens with severe respiratory conditions, they need at least 11 hours of sleep as they are totally unwell. However, when I asked the teachers whether they can come later to school, the teachers say no. Now my teen who is only in sec 1 keeps having outbursts, shouts all the time due to seeing her peers shouting all the time at school, and has anger management issues due to lack of sleep and high stress. Her teachers say it is normal for students to sleep at 10.30 pm and claim that if students sleep earlier, then they won't be able to cope with the heavier load of homework and studies in sec 2, 3 and 4. I'm losing my teen to stress, depression and anger. <This message was edited>

13/09/2023, 11:16 am - +Bhavani: The most important issue of having adequate sleep for good mental health is being overlooked. <This message was edited>

13/09/2023, 11:18 am - +Bhavani: I think teens should be made to do their homework at school itself so that they have adequate time to study at home.

13/09/2023, 11:19 am - +Bhavani: Doing homework and studying are 2 different things. Studying involves carefully understanding the topics in further detail.

13/09/2023, 11:20 am - +Bhavani: Homework is doing what the teachers require students to do.

13/09/2023, 11:20 am - +Bhavani: When homework is brought back home, there is no time to study anything in detail.

13/09/2023, 11:21 am - +Bhavani: Therefore,  there is a poorer understanding of the topics leading  to poorer grades

13/09/2023, 11:24 am - +Bhavani: My teen has just 1 or 2 friends in school. The others look down on her as they think she is is not witty enough. Due to her respiratory conditions which affects her brain, she has poor social skills, often forgets things, is poor with deadlines.

13/09/2023, 11:25 am - +Bhavani: All this adds to her unbearable mental stress.

13/09/2023, 11:26 am - +Frankie Wee: Study stress life

13/09/2023, 11:26 am - +Bhavani: Her respiratory issues also causes her mental issues like uncontrollable anger, stubbornness, impatience, non stop arguments over everything, which is fine, except even over sleep time

13/09/2023, 11:27 am - +Frankie Wee: It should be near school distance from home and unnecessarily go to high school far away from home

13/09/2023, 11:28 am - +Bhavani: When she argues even over sleeping early, I think this is a real red flag.

13/09/2023, 11:28 am - +Bhavani: Lack of sleep can ruin a teens life

13/09/2023, 11:29 am - +Frankie Wee: Take things easy life balance study and relaxing at home

13/09/2023, 11:29 am - +Frankie Wee: Less app gaming mostly at 10pm sleep

13/09/2023, 11:29 am - +Frankie Wee: 8hrs sleep a day

13/09/2023, 11:30 am - +Bhavani: My teen says all the homework is given online so she is always on her phone. Now she has myopia due to non stop screen time

13/09/2023, 11:32 am - +Bhavani: I read that

smartphone usage even for a few minutes can alter the dna of a person

13/09/2023, 11:32 am - +Singapore Maid Agency: Schools should mandatory have mindfulness meditation everyday for 10mins.  Xishan Primary is doing this for the past 4-5yrs πŸ‘

13/09/2023, 11:32 am - +Bhavani: Because of the radiation from the phone

13/09/2023, 11:33 am - +Jimmy Chew: More that one hour in phone screen reduces concentration and focus

13/09/2023, 11:33 am - +Bhavani: I think we should have mindfulness meditation for 20 minutes at least to reap any real benefit

13/09/2023, 11:34 am - +Bhavani: I think we must ban smartphone usage among teens as smartphones are also making them aggressive, rude, impatient, restless and stressed.

13/09/2023, 11:35 am - +Bhavani: My teen keeps breaking her nails in response to stress.

13/09/2023, 11:36 am - +Bhavani: She has difficulty concentrating and focusing on one thing at a time

13/09/2023, 11:36 am - +Frankie Wee: Cryber bully?

13/09/2023, 11:36 am - +Jimmy Chew: Regulated usage like Steve job and Facebook founder restrict their children computer time

13/09/2023, 11:37 am - +Jimmy Chew: It's having a healthy balance. Like taking a wholesome meal

13/09/2023, 11:37 am - +Frankie Wee: Over rustless

13/09/2023, 11:38 am - +Jimmy Chew: Rusty parenting skills should be upgraded

13/09/2023, 11:38 am - +Bhavani: <Media omitted>

13/09/2023, 11:38 am - +Jimmy Chew: Look at the Karens in YouTube. Hahaha

13/09/2023, 11:39 am - +Bhavani: The world health organisation above says screen time should be replaced with interaction, physical activity and sleep <This message was edited>

13/09/2023, 11:41 am - +Bhavani: It is extremely difficult to control teens when they simply refuse to listen or obey.

13/09/2023, 11:42 am - +Bhavani: Teens consider themselves like adults so they do not listen or obey at all

13/09/2023, 11:42 am - +Frankie Wee: Parent must responsible child teenage behaviour

13/09/2023, 11:43 am - +Frankie Wee: Sometime can annoy

13/09/2023, 11:43 am - +Jimmy Chew: Yeah we need to look at the whole system. Could it be that they miss their maids? Parents believe in freedom? Parents no idea how to parent?

13/09/2023, 11:43 am - +Singapore Maid Agency: All starts From young πŸ™

13/09/2023, 11:43 am - +Bhavani: Parents want to be responsible but when teens do not obey, what can parents do

13/09/2023, 11:44 am - +Frankie Wee: Then let them be consider is failure

Example teenage starting a smoking or drink at age 18 <This message was edited>

13/09/2023, 11:44 am - +Bhavani: Not true. I raised my kid with all the values but now as a teen she is completely changing.

13/09/2023, 11:45 am - +Singapore Maid Agency: Part of the reason there are no perfect parenting till now I am still learning from my counsellor @ FSC how to communicate using the right/better word.  A different approach

13/09/2023, 11:45 am - +Smiley face: How many hours do teenagers spend on social media, internet games and videos, etc?

What is time management and the role parents have to encourage (not enforcing or policing) their children on the 24 hour time frame and the weekends?

13/09/2023, 11:45 am - +Frankie Wee: Show true love and respect

13/09/2023, 11:45 am - +Singapore Maid Agency: Sometimes due to peer influence the people they are with πŸ™

13/09/2023, 11:45 am - +Smiley face: What is counselling and what Counsellors can help and the limitations of these experts? Psychologists?

13/09/2023, 11:45 am - +Bhavani: This message was deleted

13/09/2023, 11:46 am - +Bhavani: Yes exactly

13/09/2023, 11:46 am - +Jimmy Chew: On the other hand not all can be graduates . Problem in China. We need some folks who drop out of the system to take skills jobs

13/09/2023, 11:46 am - +Bhavani: Not all teens are open to counselling

13/09/2023, 11:47 am - +Jimmy Chew: Let them work and study. Be apprentice

13/09/2023, 11:48 am - +Bhavani: I think parents really need govt help in enforcing the sleep rule and banning smartphones for the mental and physical welfare of teens.

13/09/2023, 11:48 am - +Bhavani: I think this could lead to happier teens. <This message was edited>

13/09/2023, 11:49 am - +Frankie Wee: Take them outdoor better instead banned them otherwise bad disappointed

13/09/2023, 11:51 am - +Bhavani: I have taken my teen outdoors many times and done all that she wanted. However, she is totally ungrateful and does not even show gratitude by sleeping early. The only rule I enforce at home is sleep early. I never pressurise her on grades or anything else ever, yet she does not sleep early. <This message was edited>

13/09/2023, 11:51 am - +Jimmy Chew: Maids have to enforce it. Parents busy working

13/09/2023, 11:51 am - +Singapore Maid Agency: A child is a mirror of the parents πŸ™ I saw my boy at age 3-5 yrs old throw things when he is angry and SUDDENLY I saw myself in him and I quickly hug him and apologize.  Every time I’ll hug him say sorry and tell him everything is ok.  Slowly he pick up but never throw and slowly it stops.

I was under tremendous stress as a caregiver even tears while typing.

It’s challenging stay safe strong and seek help be it financially or etc….

Now my boy is 11yrs old and I seek help from school counsellor for his anger management as he was a mirror of my spouse.

Thank God and all everyuis in good hands πŸ™

Dun give up Hope is everywhere

13/09/2023, 11:51 am - +Jimmy Chew: I know some maids discipline on behalf of the parents. Hahahaha

13/09/2023, 11:52 am - +Frankie Wee: This problem she couldn’t focus herself mentally because she focus on other people attractive.

13/09/2023, 11:53 am - +Frankie Wee: What is mean for family life she need to focus on whom? Herself or think of outside

13/09/2023, 11:53 am - +Bhavani: She finds study boring having to cope with several subjects.

13/09/2023, 11:54 am - +Jimmy Chew: I think of parents, We have to do what we have to do. They have choices too whether to be an eagle or a pig <This message was edited>

13/09/2023, 11:54 am - +Singapore Maid Agency: Keep trying peers influence and it becomes habit.  Tell them about body system clock.  Have a house rules habits are not easy to change but can be change u can

13/09/2023, 11:55 am - +Jimmy Chew: I too find study boring. I wish my parents didn't force me and let me work

13/09/2023, 11:55 am - +Jimmy Chew: After working, I find studying refreshing

13/09/2023, 11:55 am - +Bhavani: Her severe respiratory issues are also playing havoc with her brain

13/09/2023, 11:56 am - +Jimmy Chew: Yeah it's possible

13/09/2023, 11:56 am - +Bhavani: She all the time having phlegm blocking her nose

13/09/2023, 11:57 am - +Jimmy Chew: Would asking her to sleep earlier make her struggle more?

13/09/2023, 11:57 am - +Singapore Maid Agency: Respiratory issue see Dr consultation.  Cordyceps helps can be easily bought off the shelves

13/09/2023, 11:57 am - +Jimmy Chew: Or honey

13/09/2023, 11:57 am - +Bhavani: Yes exactly she says got homework so cannot sleep early

13/09/2023, 11:58 am - +Frankie Wee: Mind and health Thinking herself

13/09/2023, 11:58 am - +Jimmy Chew: I had sleep apnea and detected it later in life. That explains why I slept less like 4 to 5 hrs. After being diagnosed, I sleep 7 to 8 hrs

13/09/2023, 11:59 am - +Frankie Wee: Do you have panda eye πŸ˜…

13/09/2023, 12:00 pm - +Jimmy Chew: Seeing an ear and nose expert would be good to reduce the severity

13/09/2023, 12:00 pm - +Rama: Agree

13/09/2023, 12:01 pm - +Rama: Most welcome

13/09/2023, 12:01 pm - +Bhavani: Doctors only give cetrizine tablet. Cetrizine cannot be taken for a long time as it could lead to adverse effects. <This message was edited>

13/09/2023, 12:02 pm - +Rama: Religious sensitivity must be factored in

13/09/2023, 12:03 pm - +Rama: Good points

13/09/2023, 12:03 pm - +Rama: Over stretch school hours!?

13/09/2023, 12:04 pm - +Rama: Agree

13/09/2023, 12:04 pm - +Bhavani: I meant do it within the school hours itself without stretching the hours

13/09/2023, 12:04 pm - +Rama: 😳🀦‍♂️😞

13/09/2023, 12:04 pm - +Jimmy Chew: We need to maintain standards because we're plugged to the world system, cheaper, faster more innovative <This message was edited>

13/09/2023, 12:05 pm - +Rama: Agree

13/09/2023, 12:06 pm - +Rama: Course content and teaching time will need to be relooked then

13/09/2023, 12:06 pm - +Bhavani: Respiratory sufferers could be given biologics for their conditions. I think research is underway to give biologics to asthma sufferers.

13/09/2023, 12:07 pm - +Rose M K Ho: Perhaps consider home- schooling.  Take things at yr kid's pace. Delay a year in taking major exams , to gv yr kid some time to catch up on everything.

Or change schools ... to one that is more understanding?

Just some suggestions.

😁

13/09/2023, 12:09 pm - +Rose M K Ho: Use a laptop or desktop computer.

We can still access the sch app from these, rather than hp.

13/09/2023, 12:11 pm - +Dan: Social work is a skilled industry where workers are valued and appreciated elsewhere as compared to economy-driven Singapore. I have more questions than suggestions when it comes to social work.

Why are we getting more volunteers instead of salaried helping hands?

Why are the Allied educators and counsellors paid less in schools as compared to teachers?

Are these social workers loaded with too much work(cases) that they have limited time to tend to each case?

In my opinion, the distribution of these assistant teachers (allied educators) in schools should be distributed according to needs instead of evenly distributed among all schools.

13/09/2023, 12:18 pm - +Rose M K Ho: Have a time table for her tt includes Breaks to help her respiratory problem & other things to help relax her.

It is for these reasons tt I suggest u re look at the local school system for yr child.  It may be too fast-paced for her w her condition.

Consider other types of schedules .

Propose to the school to gv yr child breaks, if nec, for her to do her respiratory thing.

Get the teacher to work with you to help yr child cope, like gv her less hw - only wat she can manage (as a start) and slowly work it up from ther, once the situation improves ...

Something like tt.

πŸ€”

13/09/2023, 12:19 pm - +Smiley face: Limitations...

13/09/2023, 12:19 pm - +Rama: Maids!?😳🀦‍♂️😞

13/09/2023, 12:21 pm - +Smiley face: What are the calibre and calibrations of these social workers?

The experience and exposures to cases? And what is the typical age of a social worker?

13/09/2023, 12:25 pm - +Smiley face: P6.5 or P7.0?

JC2.5 or JC3.0?

Poly 3.5 or Poly 4.0?

If learning is not a race and learning becomes an individual focused and abilities game of pursuing all the possibles and the next happening can be the impossibility?

Step by step or escalating the steps into one non-stop escalator leading to the roof top of knowledge to find out that it isn't the top, yet?

13/09/2023, 12:28 pm - +Smiley face: When an individual reached the EVEREST of knowledge, this so named peak, when you looked down, it's all the way DOWN! one way!

Or you scale each small mould, hill, and mountain and reserve the EVEREST for a better time to conquer! Or you died before you reached this EVEREST!

ITS YOUR CHOICE AND HOW TO GAIN IT AND GAMED IT !

13/09/2023, 12:30 pm - +Smiley face: So what is the 'system of climbing' these high mountains of know and know-how?

What are the pre-requisites?

A huge lung and app full of determination or die die charging up the 'hamburger hill' ?

13/09/2023, 12:40 pm - +Bhavani: Teens should not be forced to work in careers they are not interested in just for the money.

13/09/2023, 12:45 pm - +Bhavani: Teens must be trained in subjects and careers that help protect the world we live in

 - Saying NO NO NO, without explaining why. (No time for reasoning? Just listen to us adults? This is the path WE want you to go to? WE eat more salt than you? Ask permission before you do anything?

.... etc etc etc

Some blame it on their friends, teachers, and the whole universe but not themselves. 🫣

Some kids respond..

- "Why don't they do it when they are young? Why me?"

- "I am not my DaD or Mum. I want my own life."

-  "this is the way i rebel to their demands."

1. Important to note that most suicide cases come from :

- 10 to 29 years old

- 70 to 79 years old.

2. This means that :-

- Children in schools, all the way to Uni

- Youth coming out to work

- Elderly who are retired and could be in poor health or feel lonely if spouse no longer with them.

are among the danger groups - that are more likely to get depress and look at suicide to end their unhappy lives.

3. It is then important for professionals to educate the public at large - be in parents, relatives, friends, neighbors, people in touch points eg. teachers, boss, colleagues, doctors, etc --- how to identify people who have suicidal thoughts, speeches and actions.

4. Once the public is able to identify people of suicidal thoughts, speeches or actions - professionals should educate the public what to do - to be at least able to help in stopping suicide, and how to seek help for the person in distress.

13/09/2023, 3:30 pm - ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

1. Next is to identify why school children are prone to suicide?

a. Is it too much homework, cannot cope, subjects to difficult, high expectation to do well, pressure from parents, pressure from schools, teachers, peer pressure, too much subjects to study etc?

b. Bully at schools by classmates or schoolmates?

c. Relationship problems with classmates, schoolmates or teachers?

d. Financial stress?

e. Unsupportive home, quarreling parents, siblings, grandparent or abusive home?

f. Socially inactive or unable to communicate or share their thoughts - that lead them to be depress and have suicidal thoughs?

g. Physically sick or mentally sick - induce suicidal thoughts?

Only by knowing the root cause why young children have suicidal thoughts - can the right antidotes or solutions be prescribed.

13/09/2023, 3:38 pm - ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

2. Then identify why youth and young adults 20 to 29 years got suicidal thoughts?

a. Is it not doing well academically, cannot find jobs or good jobs?

b. Bully by boss or colleagues? Abuses or harassment or discrimination at workplace?

c. Cannot get the job he/she wants? or jobless?

d. Low salary - financial stress, financia pressure?

e. Problem looking for and financing flats?

f. Relationship problems - B/G, with parents, with siblings, with colleagues, with boss?

g. Difficulty encounter in jobs?

i. Low self esteem, social interaction problems?

j. Poor performance at work? Wrong jobs - not matching job skills?

k. Work pressure, tight deadline, demanding boss, demanding colleagues, demanding customers?

l. Physically ill or mentally ill affecting work performance?

Only by knowing the root cause why young adults or youth have suicidal thoughts - can the right antidotes or solutions be prescribed.

13/09/2023, 3:44 pm - ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

3. Why do elderly at age 70 - 79 years are prone to have suicidal thoughts?

a. Are these elderly lonely, their companion leave them and they stay alone?

b. Are they physically or mentally sick - no one to take care of their daily physiological needs, see doctors, social interation etc?

c. Are they in pain and depress?

d. Are they always stuck at home as they are not mobile due to poor physical health or are they immobile or unable to walk?

e. Are they having financial problems, unable to cook or buy food or buy necessities?

Only by knowing the root cause why this group of elderly have suicidal thoughts - can the right antidotes or solutions be prescribed.

Generally the following broad aspects of lives must be fulfilled - so that people will have less negative thoughts, less suicidal (as for humans to commit suicide needs tremendous courage and must be at their wit ends - completely and totally disappointed with life - will they muster the last strength to end their life).

1. Family love and mutual support.

2. Must find meaning in study and work or business- so that they feel that it is their achievement and they will be endow and in control of their financial health.

3. Meaningful social interaction - with loved ones, relatives, friends, colleagues, boss, neighbors and public.

4. Mental strength and resilience (incidentally mental strength can be cultivated. Mindfulness Meditation (Concentration. Insight Meditation) - is the best method to develop and cultivate mental strenght and resilience ---- and transform negtive thoughts into positive thoughts.

5. Physical Health - can be ensure with exercise, take medication if sick etc

6. Ensure everyone has house (roof over the head), financially adequate, education, healthcare, a career, happy family, good friends, colleagues, classmates.

7. Have faith or religion that one can relate to -  understand the cycle of Birth, Life, Sickness and Death - and able to come to term with it.

If people are able to muster and have a good grasp of the 7 tenets in life of a human being ---- then people will not easily succumb to suicidal thoughts --- because humans live in the present moment (and not end it).

Humans are born in the Human realm (to practise to be a better person) - not to end it.

Om.........

When people have big expectations and fail to fulfill it, then that person will feel miserable.

When a person study or work without attaching high expectations - but simply do their best.

Then any outcome - will be most satisfying - because one have given his best.

13/09/2023, 4:18 pm - +~L: For what end? Why is it imposed on everyone? Those who are not academic have nothing and feel like failures.

13/09/2023, 4:19 pm - +~L: If they are not judged by parents and society that they could have done better, maybe. Children are being judged,  measured and having expectations set for them from the age of 9, 2 years before PSLE.

13/09/2023, 4:20 pm - +~L: Yes, exactly. So how do we inject this thinking into society?

13/09/2023, 4:22 pm - ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Eg.1  My son tell me, I can't guarantee I can get into a good JC.

I told my son, just try your best, even a neighborhood JC is good enough as long as can get into Uni. No need to be the top notch JC.

If not, even poly is good, because if you try your best in poly, still can go Uni.

Outcome:- He manage to go to a neighborhood JC.

Eg. 2 My son tell me, he will try his best do well in A level, but no guarantee to score all As.

I told my son, just try your best, as long as you can get into the course you want, it is good enough.

Outcome:- He scored enough As to get into the course in one of our top Uni - though not all As.

Eg. 3 My son say, I will try to do well in Uni, but no guarantee to score perfect As.

I told my son, just try your best, no need to have perfect As, as long as you can graduate with a degree cert, find a good job - will be good enough.

Outcome:- He scored quite a no. of As in each semester, secure good internship, and awarded a Government scholarship and graduated with Honors and now serving his bond.

Eg. 4 My son say, I will try my best to do well in my career.

I told my son, try your best, and do well for your organisation that nurture you with the scholarship.

Outcome:- He got promoted within 1 1/2 years and was awarded another Government scholarship to do his Master.

Lesson of the day:-

- No need to set high expectations.

- Just need to do your best.

Result :- No mental stress, only satisfaction for every study, project and work completion and achievement.

No need to scold, be angry or beat our children.

Children can learn through reasoning - not by scolding or beating.

To allow, embrace and celebrate failures? In psychology is called the reverse psyche of shaking up one's mindset to acknowledge that only through the rough and tough moments in life, our next move may be the shinning moment and perhaps a small success to come.

How to create and calibrate many mini successes to conquer and weather the big moment of failure?

One common sense is to let time heal the wounds of failure. The next best method is to address the dip or pitfall and assessed how to redo or undo the missteps and attempt it again to clear the hurdle that is hindering your advancement. (never to think as mistakes which have a profound after effects to the mind)

Third, through systematic reinforcement using encouraging words and means to condition the failing mindsets into a new window of opportunities to be brave and have courage to strive even against the odds of success!

Fourth, with the support from authority whom are the morale supporters and the enablers of positivity to uplift as and when the above attributes are summoned upon to assist those who need helps. Is mentoring one effective way?

Don't squeeze it too hard until it suffocate and bleed.

Just do your best in the study, the work you do.

Don't carry the baggage of high expectations - it will kill you.

Enjoy the study, enjoy the work.

It is fun, it is fulfilling.

We come to human realms to learn, enjoy and become a better person - for each day we live.

We don't come to human realm to stress out ourselves.

Just enjoy every present moment we think, we speak and we do.

Then we won't have mental stress, we won't be angry easily.

We just enjoy every present moment of our life.

Even if not immediately adopted, a similar more effective and efficient method to establish - "who you really are, what is your true intent" must be established at least - before allowing fund transfer.

" Good Morning, Singapore!

Failures is the mother of all Successes!

( ε€±θ΄₯ζ˜―δΈ€εˆ‡ζˆεŠŸδΉ‹ζ―!)

How to save lives? What are the opposing factors of challenges, frustrations and incompletions that led to the common ground of failures?

Success alone will not save lives and it is not good enough to hold the ground of sanity, in this (at times insane) world!

(1st draft copy: Continuation...3/9

Accelerating Performances & Pitfalls: The Jung & The Maslow ways and more ways out of it?)

The Meaning of Life?

"Knowingly, we know life has always been uncertain and how can we use life fullest or wasted in the shortest means of time? You create space to live life fuller than just counting the days, the past and not looking forward to tomorrow, are we too busy and blinded over "me vs them" and forgotten we are the creators of happiness or misery, our pathways and we are the creature of our habits and habitats!"

- - anonymity

Young people (the beginning) :

The ignorance of life and thereafter into adulthood, the expectations driven by school, peers, parents, teachers and social media.

Young Adults and Older Adults (the becoming) :

The degrees of understanding the existential pitfalls and successes. The formation of a new family has a direct correlation to the past experiences and the present circumstance prior to the start of a new life that is an unison of one man and one woman or the alternative of the same gender co-living. All of these formations do not guarantee longevity of the human relationships nor it indicates success or successful "family".

Ageing and Seniors (the ending):

The ripen age or the silvering and the golden age of ageing bring many wisdoms, memories, experiences and a summary of the good, the bad and the ugly moments in the mind of each of these age ripen adults.

Limitations (the conclusion):

The entire cohort of the human psychology is translated into many human bedrocks of sustainable or not sustainable meanings of life; each human longevity varies, some shorter while some suddenly shorten in natural or unnatural manners and a handful crossed the century mark of age. Live life to the fullest and don't wasted it, it may well be this - YOLO?

What is mental resilience, how the architectures and how to build it?

Fall & Rise?

Do you have it or can we build this vital life sign of bouncing whenever you meet a failure or celebrate a success?

To allow, embrace and celebrate failures? In psychology is called the reverse psyche of shaking up one's mindset to acknowledge that only through the rough and tough moments in life, our next move may be the shinning moment and perhaps a small success to come.

Fourth, with the support from authority whom are the morale supporters and the enablers of positivity to uplift as and when the above attributes are summoned upon to assist those who need helps. Is mentoring one effective way?

Afterwords:

Different Folks, Different Strikes?

The tradition:

No human loves to hear negative feedbacks! In the school environment and the matriculation of pupils, often and a tradition to engage both the students and parents bluntly communicating pockets of negative words in describing a pupil abilities and performance at school.

An alternate way is to instill many directed shots of warm and hopeful remarks to pupils and parents, it is not about creating false hopes, it's about the future potentials.of each valued pupil; by encouraging improvement with meanings, strategies, and the achieveable goals. That's shall be a meaningful, of salvation than desperation, and a game changing PTM session !

This new approach is to tame unnecessary fires of anxiety to pupils and parents that 10 out of 10 consequentially lead to more mugging and tuition and the unintended consequences may lead to stress and suicide, all just to climb above the KPI or in the pursue of knowledge - the game of snake & ladder and the Grades!

The Scholarship of the Three Distinctions?

"If you are a gold medalist? When you compete at the Olympic, you shall know your final standing...?

It doesn't matter if you are from ITE, Poly, JC or Uni; as long as you study hard, there will be a path for the majority to climb the ladder of education! That's one pillar of social compactness and the equaliser against the substance of disadvantaged or inequalities!"

The traditional meaning of a Scholarship is to award exceptional individuals for their excellent academic achievements and other achievements to further the studies in the respective field.

Enlarging the Scholarship?

If we transformed this concept of the scholarship and enlarge it to include more candidates through awards of recognitions, encouragements and placements into the next level of the knowledge ladder. And not OVERLY based on grades ALONE but Charactership and other meaningful intangibles of potentials because the future leaders must possess good character, creative problem solver, drive and determination, and from diverse backgrounds! (character and diversity matters most)

Putting into practice?

Our ITE cohort, up to 80% will elevate to the Polytechnic and thereafter another 50% shall enroll into University as Sophomores. For Polytechnic graduates, up to 95% are eligible to further their knowledge at the University level at the Sophomore level. Likewise all graduates, our University graduates should be strongly encouraged to further their studies at the post graduates level.

All the above three Distinctions of students will enjoy full monetary supports from MOE/MOF with 50% subsides so that graduates will not be overly burden with their students loan to pay for.  Responsibilities is one consideration and the affordability angle is the key consideration for all of our students!

All of these scholarships is to build a cohesive society based on majority efforts and not the 20% that make it through and the larger portion shall remain stagnate at their various life stations.

Finally, what is self-esteem, what is an aspiration and the discourse of pragmatism?

Is self-esteem the mother of all success or failed and fallen?
