Hopefully the draft final version of the RCEP can be agreed in this meeting - setting the stage for final signing.

Ricky Lim
“The RCEP negotiations have continued for some time, and have now reached a critical stage. After a great deal of work, the possibility of substantively concluding the RCEP negotiations is finally in sight,” he added.
--
This is really great news for Singapore and the whole Asia Pacific region.
There must be momentum to keep going - until everyone sign to conclude the RCEP.

RCEP is a US$23.8 trillion GDP market ---- much much more than US US$19 trillion GDP market.

It will compensate and cushion against Trump's trade war.

RCEP US$23.8 trillion GDP market - will be the largest GDP market in the World - that will surpass EU US$22 trillion GDP (PPP) or US$19.7 trillion GDP (Nominal) - the current biggest GDP market in the World.

Malaysia floats plan for third link to Singapore
Read more at https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/johor-government-third-link-singapore-bridge-pulau-ubin-10667018

 (Updated: )

Ricky Lim
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Thursday (Aug 30) that there is "some" plan to build a third link with Singapore, amid reports that Malaysia's southern state of Johor was in talks to build a bridge that could be completed in three or four years.

Johor government was researching the possibility of building a bridge from Pengerang near Kota Tinggi to the Pulau Ubin island in Singapore.
--
(1) Very strange that Dr M and Johor government is proposing to build a bridge between Pengerang to Pulau Ubin.
(i) Pulau Ubin is a forested small island with no bridge to Singapore mainland - there are very little economic value in Pulau Ubin - why would Dr M and Johor government proposed a bridge to Pulau Ubin --- to go hiking as Johor don't have forest for hiking?

(ii) Pengerang is very far away to Pulau Ubin - and in fact need to link to Pulau Tekong before linking to Pulau Ubin.
Pulau Tekong is our army base.
What is Dr M's intention?

(iii) Assume a bridge is build to link Pulau Ubin, how does Malaysian go to Singapore mainland? By boat?

-- It doesn't make any economical sense to build a bridge of few hundred million dollars with absolutely no economic values and return.
-- Also why from Pengerang to Pulau Ubin?

Now we have 3 links to Malaysia :-
(1) Woodland
(2) Tuas
(3) proposed RTS link

HSR is now "deferred" or "cancelled" ---- why do we need the 4th or 5th link to --- of all places to Pulau Ubin --- that does not make any economic sense or transport link sense?

Kok Chee Seong - good transportation doesn't make sense to build a bridge go to Pulau Ubin via Pengerang.
If you take out the map - you will see it is a very ridiculous link.

The proposed link - will hit straight to our Changi Airport if go direct to the Singapore mainland - and block the ingress path to the Straits of Johor.

If not it have to go to Pulau Tekong in one bridge - then they expect us to build another link to Pulau Ubin - and then take a boat to transport to Singapore mainland?

Pulau Tekong is our restricted area - not even open to Singapore public - why they want to cross into this island?

Is a good proposal for the 3rd link if Najib takesover the govt. More johoreans willl fly through our airport. With the current govt you can forget about it as they dont abide to the terms and conditions of the contract. Singapore follow British law and they follow their kampung law.

At the backdrop of the seemingly good news, there are 2 things that we have to bear in mind :-
(1) the details of the deal
(2) whether that old man agree with the deal - and will not cause problem later. We are talking about an old man that have the tendency to roti-prata and flip flop.

There are 2 old men in the World - that has make the World less trusting to them.
(1) One is the old man in US - who is the flip flop king - who break all signed deals and do policy U-turn.
(2) The second is the oldest man next door - who is the roti prata king - who flip-flop on all signed deals.

Trump says China making things 'much more difficult' with North Korea
Read more at https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/trump-says-china-making-things-much-more-difficult-with-north-10665752

 (Updated: )

Trump has been conceding many "trust deficit" and "U-turn" in many International Agreements and infringing many International rules :-
(1) Trump break the Iran Nuclear Deal - how will the International bodies believe Trump will not flip flop?
(2) Trump break the WTO rules - by unilaterally levying trade tariff on many of his major trading partners - by bullying them to submit to his demand. This has damaged the Global Trading and Supply Chain - harming many Countries in the World.
(3) Trump break the Paris Climate Deal - when almost unanimously all the Countries in the World signed to protect the Earth and Humanity on Earth.
(4) Trump break the TPP - hurting all the members of TPP.
(5) Trump refuse to acknowledge the trade deal signed with S Korea.
etc

What make the World think can trust and help Trump?
LikeReply1m
A Person who consistently break international rules, who flip-flop like roti prata, who U-turn on policy make and who refuse to stick to rules --- will score a big "Trust Deficit" --- and he make himself untrustworthy, unreliable --- and make the World unable to trust such a person --- who is full of character flaw.

Trump has lose all the moral high ground - in the eyes of the World.

In short Trump has done "nothing" (0) to benefit the World.

Trump has been using bullying, strong hand tactics to benefit himself.

Trump has never do things that have mutual benefits - for the World and USA.
Trump only want a "Win-Lose" outcome - Trump win all and the World lose all.

So what make the World think will help Trump?

Commentary: Asia must take a stand in dealing with Trump's trade war

Wait-and-see strategies to Trump's trade war are no longer viable. It's time for a strategic response from the region that has more stake in the global system than any part of the world, says one observer.
