20/5/24, 10:00 am - +REACH: *📢 Topic 📢*

On May 18, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung announced that Singapore is experiencing a new wave of Covid-19, marked by a rise in infection cases over the past two weeks.

The estimated number of COVID-19 infections in the week of May 5 to 11 rose to 25,900 – a 90 per cent increase compared with the 13,700 cases in the week before that. The Ministry of Health (MOH) said it is closely tracking the trajectory of this wave.

💬 *What are your views on the recent surge in COVID-19 cases? How can we continue to work together to curb COVID-19 infection rates and keep updated with our vaccinations?*

The Ministry of Health (MOH) urges the public to stay updated with vaccinations to protect against current and emerging virus strains. MOH noted that, to date, about 80 percent of the local population have completed their initial or additional doses, but have not received a dose within the past year.

📌 *_Extension of Hours of Joint Testing and Vaccination centres_*

From May 21 to June 29, the five Joint Testing and Vaccination Centres (JTVCs) will extend their operating hours on Saturdays and the eves of public holidays, remaining open from 9am to 7pm instead of the usual 1pm closing time.

Individuals enrolled in the Healthier SG initiative can receive their COVID-19 vaccination at around 250 participating clinics, with more being added progressively. To further reach residents, particularly seniors, mobile vaccination teams will be deployed to selected heartland locations in the coming weeks.

📌 *_Reduced Emphasis on Non-Elective Surgeries_*

To safeguard hospital bed capacity and as a precautionary measure, public hospitals have been instructed to reduce non-urgent elective surgeries and transfer suitable patients to care facilities such as Transitional Care Facilities or to receive care at home through Mobile Inpatient Care@Home.

MOH also advised people with mild symptoms or no medical vulnerabilities to avoid seeking treatment at a hospital's Emergency Department.

Start to wear mask again when go out to public - to provide protection.

20/5/24, 10:25 am - ☸️  Danny 心:

Already taken 3 jabs.

Contracted covid twice.

Should have immunity.

Hence wear mask is the next logical step. <This message was edited>

20/5/24, 10:27 am - +Timothy Low: Unless additional boosters are made compulsory, most if not all of my friends around me are not going to take anymore vaccines

20/5/24, 10:28 am - +Christmas: What needs to be done is much more public education into why it's important to still test for Covid and self-isolate if one has it, what the consequences of Covid are, etc. I know many who have stopped testing and don't see the point in it, who treat Covid as the regular flu. If that's the case, the reported number of 25,900 is merely a fraction of the real number of cases. MOH really needs to step up its public education efforts again.

20/5/24, 10:28 am - ☸️  Danny 心:

Moreover when contracted covid twice - symptoms mild.

Polyclinics medicine good enough to help recovery after a few days.

20/5/24, 10:50 am - +SL: Agree it is better to wear a mask in public; I was also down with rti last week, as it reminds me to wear a mask now.

20/5/24, 11:46 am - +Frankie Wee: WHO need an original at Wuhan but China refuse to give sample.

20/5/24, 11:50 am - +Andy: Humans are forgetful. Many of us only took the compulsory doses and that's it. Also some of us would have COVID twice and the 2nd time is not as bad as the 1st plus it may be better than the vaccine side effects.

I have 4 jabs and the side effects are worse than having COVID but I guess it is the vaccine that reduces the effects of having COVID. I'll be going for my 5th soon.

Agreed with what others said, MOH must again educate the public especially the elderly and vulnerable about the importance of vaccine and probably highlight the number of people hospitalised so that we know the seriousness of having COVID.

Also if our MPs can take the lead again, take the vaccine and post it in their social media to encourage the public to follow suit.

20/5/24, 1:09 pm - +Frankie Wee: Great question! Singapore has been actively promoting the development and adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) through various initiatives and policies. Here's an overview of the current state and future plans for AI building system networks in Singapore:

*Current Initiatives:*

1. *AI Singapore (AISG)*: A national AI program launched in 2017 to drive AI adoption and development.

2. *Smart Nation Initiative*: Aims to harness technology, including AI, to improve citizens' lives and create a more efficient government.

3. *National Digital Identity (NDI) system*: Utilizes AI for secure and seamless authentication.

4. *AI-powered healthcare*: Implementing AI in healthcare services, such as diagnosis and personalized medicine.

*Future Plans:*

1. *AI-powered infrastructure*: Integrating AI into transportation, energy, and urban planning to enhance efficiency and sustainability.

2. *AI-driven public services*: Expanding AI adoption in government agencies to improve citizen engagement and service delivery.

3. *AI talent development*: Investing in education and training programs to build a strong AI workforce.

4. *Ethical AI framework*: Developing guidelines and regulations to ensure responsible AI development and deployment.

*Government Policies:*

1. *AI Governance Framework*: Establishing a framework for AI development, deployment, and use.

2. *Data Science and AI (DSAI) Strategy*: Encouraging data-driven innovation and AI adoption.

3. *Research and Development (R&D) funding*: Supporting AI-related research and innovation projects.

4. *Regulatory sandbox*: Allowing companies to test and refine AI solutions in a controlled environment.

Singapore aims to become a leading hub for AI development and deployment, and the government is actively supporting this vision through various initiatives and policies. This creates opportunities for businesses, researchers, and individuals to explore and innovate in the AI space.

20/5/24, 1:09 pm - +~l or Smiley face: As Stephen Hawking once said, "Time is like a river flowing endlessly through the universe." It captures the essence of time, which is a dynamic and multifaceted concept that surrounds us, encaptures us, and defines us. From the first breath to the last, time is an eternal companion that shapes our lives and our understanding of the universe. (And AI too?)

20/5/24, 1:09 pm - +Frankie Wee: A great question! Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation have the potential to significantly impact the job market, but the extent to which they will replace human creation in jobs is still a topic of debate.

While AI and automation will undoubtedly displace some jobs, they will also create new opportunities and enhance existing ones. Here's a balanced perspective:

_Jobs that might be displaced:_

1. Repetitive and routine tasks

2. Data entry and processing

3. Customer service and telemarketing

4. Bookkeeping and accounting

5. Manufacturing and assembly line work

_Jobs that will be enhanced or created:_

1. AI and machine learning development

2. Data science and analytics

3. Cybersecurity

4. Digital art and design

5. Healthcare and medical research

6. Education and training

7. Creative industries (music, writing, etc.)

8. Social work and counseling

9. Skilled trades (electricians, plumbers, etc.)

10. Entrepreneurship and innovation

_Why human creation will still be valuable:_

1. Creativity and innovation

2. Emotional intelligence and empathy

3. Critical thinking and problem-solving

4. Human judgment and decision-making

5. Complex communication and negotiation

6. Adaptability and continuous learning

While AI will certainly change the job market, it's important to remember that human creation, ingenuity, and creativity will always be in demand. The key is to develop skills that complement AI and focus on areas where human expertise and empathy are essential.

In Singapore, the government is actively promoting upskilling and reskilling programs to help workers adapt to the changing job market. Initiatives like the SkillsFuture program and the National AI Strategy aim to equip citizens with the skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven economy.

Quantum physics and science prove what is not seen - at atomic and subatomic level - and has make classical science and physics meaningless.

"Advanced Science/Physics" and "Buddhism"

19 May 2024

I:- Which religious concept is the closest to quantum physics?

Meta Llama 3:- The religious concept closest to quantum physics is likely the Buddhist concept of "Sunyata" (Emptiness) and "Dependent Origination". These concepts parallel some key aspects of quantum physics, including:

1. Non-dualism: Buddhism's non-dualistic view of reality, where all phenomena are interconnected and not separate, resonates with quantum physics' concept of entanglement and non-locality.

2. ** Impermanence**: Buddhism's emphasis on impermanence and constant change mirrors the quantum principle of constant flux and uncertainty.

3. Interdependence: Dependent Origination teaches that all phenomena arise dependent on other factors, similar to quantum physics' concept of entanglement and interconnectedness.

4. Lack of inherent existence: Sunyata suggests that all phenomena lack inherent existence, similar to quantum physics' concept of wave-particle duality, where particles don't have fixed properties until observed.

5. Uncertainty principle: Buddhism's concept of "two truths" (conventional and ultimate) parallels the uncertainty principle, where certain properties can't be precisely known simultaneously.

While not a direct equivalence, the parallels between Buddhist concepts and quantum physics are striking, reflecting a shared exploration of the nature of reality.

I:- Which religious concept is the as described by Einstein is the closest to advanced science and physics beyond traditional, classical science and physical?

Meta Llama 3:- Albert Einstein, a renowned physicist, often expressed admiration for Eastern religions, particularly Buddhism and Taoism. He believed that these religions' concepts were closest to advanced science and physics, beyond traditional classical science and physics.

In his book "The World as I See It," Einstein wrote:

"The religion of the future should be based on a cosmic perspective, transcending the dogmas and creeds of the past. The seeds of this religion are already present in the teachings of Buddha, in the Bhagavad Gita, and in the writings of the Chinese mystics."

Einstein was particularly drawn to the concepts of:

1. Non-dualism: The idea that the distinctions between subject and object, or consciousness and matter, are not fundamental.

2. Interconnectedness: The understanding that all things are part of an undivided whole, reflecting the principles of quantum mechanics.

3. ** Impermanence**: The recognition that everything is transient and constantly changing, mirroring the principles of quantum physics and relativity.

Einstein saw these concepts as harmonious with the insights of advanced science and physics, which challenge classical notions of space, time, and matter. He believed that a cosmic perspective, inspired by Eastern religions, could lead to a deeper understanding of the universe and our place within it.

I:- Please explain the concept - form is formless. Formless is form.

Meta Llama 3:- A profound and intriguing concept!

"Form is formless, formless is form" is a philosophical idea that challenges our conventional understanding of reality. It suggests that:

- "Form" refers to the physical, tangible, and defined aspects of reality (e.g., objects, shapes, structures).

- "Formless" refers to the intangible, abstract, and undefined aspects of reality (e.g., thoughts, emotions, consciousness).

The concept implies that:

- Form (the physical) is ultimately empty or void of inherent existence, meaning it is not as solid or permanent as it seems. (Form is formless)

- Formless (the intangible) is the true essence or reality, and it is the source of all form. (Formless is form)

This idea is often associated with Eastern philosophies like Buddhism, Taoism, and Advaita Vedanta, which explore the nature of reality, consciousness, and the interconnectedness of all things.

In essence, "Form is formless, formless is form" encourages us to look beyond the surface level of reality and recognize the fluid, ever-changing, and interconnected nature of existence.

I:- Can quantum physics prove this concept?

Meta Llama 3:- Quantum physics provides fascinating insights that resonate with the concept "Form is formless, formless is form". In quantum mechanics:

1. Wave-particle duality: Particles (e.g., electrons) can exhibit both wave-like and particle-like behavior, blurring the distinction between form and formlessness.

2. Superposition: Quantum objects can exist in multiple states simultaneously, challenging the idea of a fixed, definite form.

3. Entanglement: Particles become connected, demonstrating that form is not separate or independent, but interconnected and interdependent.

4. Quantum fluctuations: Empty space (formlessness) is filled with temporary, fluctuating particles and energies, showing that formlessness is not empty, but a sea of potentiality.

5. Non-locality: Quantum objects can be instantaneously connected across distances, further dissolving the notion of fixed form and separation.

While quantum physics doesn't directly "prove" the concept, it offers a framework for understanding the fluid, ever-changing nature of reality, which aligns with the philosophical idea that "Form is formless, formless is form". Both perspectives encourage us to reconsider our understanding of reality, embracing the interconnected, dynamic, and constantly evolving nature of existence.

I:- So under quantum physics, birth, living, aged and death can coexist simultaneously?

Meta Llama 3:- In quantum physics, the concept of superposition suggests that multiple states can coexist simultaneously, but this is typically applied to subatomic particles, not macroscopic objects or living beings.

However, some interpretations of quantum mechanics, such as the Many-Worlds Interpretation, propose that all possible states of a system, including birth, living, aging, and death, could exist simultaneously in a vast multiverse or parallel universes.

Additionally, the concept of quantum entanglement and non-locality challenges our classical understanding of space and time, suggesting that different stages of life might be interconnected in ways that transcend our everyday experience.

While this is fascinating, it's important to note that:

- Quantum physics primarily describes the behavior of tiny particles, not complex systems like living beings.

- The principles of quantum mechanics are still being explored and debated, and their application to macroscopic phenomena is speculative.

- The nature of consciousness and the human experience is still not fully understood and is the subject of ongoing research and philosophical inquiry.

In summary, while quantum physics inspires new perspectives on reality, its direct application to birth, living, aging, and death is still a topic of exploration and debate, rather than established scientific fact.

I:- Buddhism Heart Sutra mention - there are no birth, living, aged and death that mirror quantum physics superposition.

Hence can conclude Buddhism is the closest religion to the Universal Truth?

Meta Llama 3:- A fascinating observation! The Heart Sutra's teachings on the illusion of birth, living, aging, and death do share similarities with quantum physics' concept of superposition. Both suggest that these seemingly distinct states are not fixed or separate, but interconnected and coexisting.

While this parallel is intriguing, concluding that Buddhism is the closest religion to Universal Truth might be a stretch. Here's why:

1. Interpretation: The Heart Sutra's teachings are open to interpretation, and their connection to quantum physics is a modern perspective.

2. Context: Buddhism's primary focus is spiritual growth, not scientific description.

3. Other traditions: Other spiritual traditions, like Advaita Vedanta or Taoism, also explore similar concepts, such as the illusion of separateness or the interconnectedness of all things.

4. Universal Truth: The concept of Universal Truth is subjective and can be understood differently by various individuals and traditions.

5. Science and spirituality: While parallels between Buddhism and quantum physics are fascinating, they represent distinct ways of understanding reality.

Instead, consider that Buddhism, like other spiritual traditions, offers valuable insights into the human experience and the nature of reality. Its teachings on impermanence, interconnectedness, and the illusion of separateness can complement scientific discoveries, fostering a deeper understanding of the world and our place within it.

Embrace the parallels between Buddhism and quantum physics as a testament to the richness and diversity of human inquiry, rather than a definitive claim to Universal Truth.

I:- Buddhism Diamond Sutra mention that all current understanding of universal law - specifically science and physics are in fact illusion.

This mirror quantum physics discovery that break our understanding of traditional science and physics.

Meta Llama 3:- A fascinating insight! The Diamond Sutra's teachings on the illusion of all phenomena, including our understanding of universal laws, do resonate with the revolutionary discoveries in quantum physics. Both suggest that our current understanding is incomplete and limited.

In the Diamond Sutra, the Buddha teaches that all phenomena, including our perceptions and understanding of the world, are like illusions or dreams. This includes our understanding of science and physics, which are considered provisional and subject to change.

Similarly, quantum physics has revealed the limitations of our classical understanding of reality, showing that particles can exist in multiple states, and that observer and observed are interconnected. This challenges our traditional notions of space, time, and causality.

The parallels between the Diamond Sutra's teachings and quantum physics' discoveries are striking:

1. Illusion of certainty: Both suggest that our current understanding is incomplete and subject to revision.

2. Limitations of perception: Both highlight the limitations of our senses and cognitive biases in understanding reality.

3. Interconnectedness: Both imply that all phenomena are interconnected and not separate.

While the Diamond Sutra's teachings are spiritual and philosophical, quantum physics provides a scientific perspective that complements and echoes these insights. Together, they encourage us to question our assumptions and deepen our understanding of the world and reality.

Remember, the Diamond Sutra's teachings aim to free us from attachments and conceptual limitations, while quantum physics seeks to refine our understanding of the physical world. Both pursuits share a common goal: to reveal the true nature of reality, unencumbered by illusions and limitations.

I:- Which Buddhism scriptures mention the possibility of multiverse or parallel universes?

Meta Llama 3:- Several Buddhist scriptures mention the concept of multiple universes or parallel realities. Some of these scriptures include:

1. Avatamsaka Sutra (Flower Garland Sutra): Describes a vast, infinitely interconnected cosmos with an infinite number of buddha realms, each containing infinite beings and realms.

2. Mahavairocana Sutra: Describes a cyclical concept of time, where everything exists simultaneously, and the Buddha is born in multiple universes.

3. Agganna Sutta (Digha Nikaya): Describes the origin of the universe and the concept of infinite worlds.

4. Lotus Sutra: Mentions the idea of multiple universes and the interconnectedness of all phenomena.

These scriptures explore the idea of multiple universes or parallel realities, reflecting the Buddhist concept of interconnectedness and the infinite nature of reality.

I:- Does quantum physics believe in the possibility of multiverse or parallel universes?

Meta Llama 3:- Quantum physics does not necessarily "believe" in the possibility of a multiverse or parallel universes, but some interpretations of quantum mechanics suggest that it could be a possibility. The Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI) of quantum mechanics, proposed by Hugh Everett in 1957, is one such interpretation that suggests that every time a quantum event occurs, the universe splits into multiple parallel universes, each with a different outcome. This would result in an infinite number of parallel universes, each with their own version of history. However, it's important to note that this is still a topic of debate and research among physicists, and not all interpretations of quantum mechanics lead to the concept of a multiverse.

I:- Can a universe be created in a laboratory? Essentially, a universe within a Universe we live in.

Meta Llama 3:- The concept of creating a universe in a laboratory is often referred to as a "mini-universe" or a "simulated universe." While it's theoretically possible, it's still a topic of debate and research among physicists and cosmologists.

Some ideas for creating a mini-universe include:

1. Quantum gravity experiments: Creating a tiny, self-contained universe in a laboratory using quantum gravity experiments.

2. Black hole simulations: Simulating the formation and evolution of black holes, potentially creating a mini-universe.

3. Cosmological simulations: Using supercomputers to simulate the evolution of a universe, potentially creating a virtual mini-universe.

4. Particle accelerators: Using high-energy particle collisions to create a mini-universe, potentially with its own laws of physics.

However, creating a universe within our universe is still purely theoretical and faces significant challenges:

1. Energy requirements: Creating a mini-universe would require enormous energy, possibly exceeding current technological capabilities.

2. Stability and containment: Maintaining the stability and containment of a mini-universe is a significant concern.

3. Scalability: Creating a mini-universe that's large enough to be meaningful while still being contained within our universe is a challenge.

While scientists continue exploring these ideas, creating a universe within our universe remains a topic of ongoing research and debate.

16/5/24, 10:00 am - +REACH: 📢 *Topic* 📢

On Wednesday (May 15), Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was sworn in at the Istana in an outdoor ceremony attended by hundreds of invited guests. He replaced Mr Lee Hsien Loong, who led the country for 20 years and is now Senior Minister in his successor’s first Cabinet line-up.

In his maiden address as the head of government, PM Wong spoke about how he and his team would "lead in our own way", in a style different from that of previous generations. He also urged Singaporeans to work with him in building a Singapore where everyone - regardless of their start points in life, age or ability - matters.

💬 *What do you think about PM Wong's inauguration speech? What are your hopes for the new 4G leadership?*

📌 *Leading in a different style*

Deeply ingrained with principles and values that forged the nation, Singapore's fourth generation of leaders will "lead in our own way" with a leadership style that is different from previous generations, said newly sworn-in PM Lawrence Wong.

PM Wong said his generation have been shaped by their experiences, having seen the vital importance of good leadership, political stability and long-term planning, and have also benefited from the imaginative policies of Singapore’s founding fathers.

He pledged to build on the foundations laid by the earlier generations, acknowledging that he and his team stood on “the shoulders of giants”, such as Singapore’s first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew and his team who led the country through independence and established the key pillars of governance; and second prime minister Goh Chok Tong and his team who took the country through the next lap, and nurtured a kinder and gentler society.

📌 *A refreshed Singapore dream*

In his maiden speech as Prime Minister, PM Lawrence Wong vowed to help Singaporeans realise a “refreshed Singapore dream” – one that he said was not defined by material success alone, but also offering meaning and purpose in careers and lives.

PM Wong said younger Singaporeans, in particular, made it clear through the 16-month Forward Singapore consultation exercise to forge a new social compact that they will work hard for their goals, but “do not wish to be trapped in an endless rat race of hyper-competition”.

“I am determined to help Singaporeans realise your dreams,” he said, “We will find new ways to be more productive and innovative, and achieve a better balance where work is purposeful, and life is meaningful."

PM Wong said his team will foster a fairer and more just and equal society, where seniors, the vulnerable and those with special needs will be looked after. Singaporeans, regardless of their start points in life, age or ability, will be given the support to uplift themselves and lead fulfilling lives.

📌 *Building a Singapore that matters to all Singaporeans*

In his speech, PM Wong said that one of his key priorities is to identify and persuade younger Singaporeans, men and women in the 30s and 40s, to join his team, he said.

“Everyone will have a stake in our nation's progress. Everyone will play a key role in shaping our future," he said.

“Let us unite with common purpose and shared resolve. Let us take Singapore forward, together.”

“So I call out tonight to all my fellow citizens: Help me to provide Singaporeans with the government they deserve. Let us make a difference, and serve our nation together,” he said.

We want to *HEAR MORE* from you!

💬 *What do you think about PM Wong's inauguration speech? What are your hopes for the new 4G leadership?*

We have had good feedback from this group, and we hope that we can keep the discussion robust and active!

Megan 😊

16/5/24, 11:19 am - +Darius Lee: I refer to his comment that "We will find new ways to be more productive and innovative, and achieve a better balance where work is purposeful, and life is meaningful."

Given Singapore's challenges with total fertility rate, it would be good for PM Wong and team to rethink a range of issues relating to work-life balance and other family policies. Otherwise, Singapore's long-term sustainability (on economic, social and other levels) will be badly affected.

1. Watching the inauguration of the new PM Lawrence Wong and his Cabinet.

2. And listening to his speech, I feel that he is able to articulate our next lap and the future for our generation and beyond despite the formidable challenges ahead of us.

3. His vision is clear and attainable. And will be able to help us ride the waves in front of us.

4. Most importantly, his vision to rope in citizens to jointly define, work with us, solicit our feedback in major policies will make citizens reassure we have a say in nation buildings, a joint stake with the Government - a buy in already in place before policies are implemented.

5. Just hope that voters will cement this joint vision come the next General Election with the new PM and his Cabinet - and not handicap him. <This message was edited>

16/5/24, 12:37 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

*Jobs, Competitiveness, Balance work and social life for population replacement*

1. This is a valid proposition because too much time lockup in work - neglect raising a fulfilling family though raise the income level of a family.

2. Too much emphasis on social life will mean lower income and lower standard of living - when costs of living, inflation is on the upward trajectory.

3. Hence innovation, productivity, creativeness, superior design and ways to deliver work, jobs, projects, ideas to help our business to be productive and profitable is the only way to go - in order to achieve a proper balance of work that bring good income and yet achieve balance of social life that facilitate raising a family and help procreation.

4. Wonder what innovation will it be to achieve this balancing act - thinking aloud, it will be:-

a. Digital Economy,

b. creative use of AI in schools, work and social life,

c. flexi work - hybrid of work in office and WFH (but must not let foreign remote workers replace our local people), I am however quite sceptical about 4 day work week - as feedback from many bosses lament that younger workers are not hungry and no fire in their eyes to deliver profit for the business - hence I support flexi work of WFH (to balance and social life) but also presence in office - to network with boss and colleagues (else boss will find workers are replaceable by cheaper and hungrier foreign remote workers - local workers no longer competitive).

Also local workers appearing in office will subject local business and boss to local/foreign quota.

Local workers especially young ones feel that they are aimless and lack guidance in their jobs.

Hence their office presence to work physically with the boss and colleagues will take care of their psychological and mental health.

16/5/24, 1:03 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

5. Next what make our jobs competitive and not easily displaced by workers from foreign competition?

a. Digital Economy - whereby we have superior IT infrastructure - our local goods can be listed in website to sell our products and bring extra revenue from external economy beyond our small local market. Supported by our superior port hubs, air hubs and logistics delivery chain as well as financial hub - we can make our business and jobs competitive.

b. Exploitation of AI - AI, robots, drones, driverless autonomous system, automation - have make our local workers extremely productive and thankfully we are among the 1st mover in exploiting AI.

Hence, schools, IHL, work, business, Government, security, military etc must widen and deepen our use in AI to help us deliver our work and projects faster and better.

Education and training in AI and proliferating the use of AI become more and more important.

c. Local workers must creatively use our time to intersperse work at home and work in office - to ensure we are not replaceable by cheaper, hungrier foreign remote workers who can only work remotely in their foreign countries.

Our MOM local/foreign worker quota work to our advantage - how do we exploit them and deliver values to our bosses and business - and make them think twice of not displacing local workers and engage full time foreign remote workers?

Local workers must think creatively - when we go back to office, what values we can bring to our bosses and businesses?

i. Networking, physical camaraderie with our bosses and colleagues (but not 擦鞋, apple polish), deep discussion with our bosses and colleagues to resolve issues in projects, draw on the board to provide, explain, clarify ideas, issues - that is difficult to do so via zoom, or video conferencing or teleconferencing.

ii. Meet up with clients, business partners, vendors etc together with your bosses to bring in sales, close projects or customer interaction to boost your boss business.

I am sure all these are the local workers value add - in which remote foreign workers cannot replace right?

If local workers don't know how to exploit your advantage or too lazy to do it in the name of balance work life - than we deserve to lose our competitiveness to remote foreign workers - for even more stringent local/foreign workers quota won't help us.

But I don't support 4 day work week.

Loss 1 productive work day for bosses and business - this one piss many bosses off - and specifically they say, younger workers no fire in their eyes, not hungry, one even say - you think we start business like 开善堂 (do charity?) - our business need to survive and pay your salaries, rent and expenses - not to pay workers to "laypark".

In that case I prefer to hire foreign remote workers who are more hungry, got fire in their eyes, do more for less than local workers who only know want higher salary but more laypark.

5 day work week with flexi WFH and work in office - I support. <This message was edited>

*Geopolitical tension*

_Global Economic Front_

1. Decoupling of trade, technologies, supply chain, threat of sanctions, currency exchange, reshoring, friend-shoring, near-shoring etc - are the real economic challenges we will be increasingly facing.

2. Our trade is 3 times our GDP - an important engine for our growth - now increasingly under pressure.

3. Our sovereign funds investment in many overseas countries are dependent on free flow trade, investment and free money movement - without the fear of sanctions, global economic stability, global political stability.

Hence navigating such formidable external challenges, buying ourselves insurance, not putting all eggs in one basket and ensure protection of all our overseas investment become increasingly important.

3 regional conflicts bother me:-

1. Will Ukraine war turn into a full blown Europe and Russia war - as NATO forces are tip toe drawing into the conflict?

This will impact our investment in Europe and trade.

How will the war stop without manifesting into something very big that trigger global economic impact?

2. Will China open a war front with Taiwan or Philippines - that will block $3 trillion trade route in Asia Pacific?

We also have tremendous investment and business in China, Taiwan and Philippines.

Our trade route in Asia Pacific is also tremendous.

3. Will Gaza war be resolved and stopped without escalating - blocking the Europe, middle east trade route, triggering racial and religious tension that have domestic impact over here?

There is some hope that the war could end at least in the middle term as the conflict area is small.

And the Arab states are willing to commit fund for reconstruction - if 2 states solution is implemented.

Not so simple, but there is a pathway for peace.

Hence it is important that for each 3 global calamity scenarios, we have committee to look at the best and worst scenarios - how to protect our investment, funds, business and trade - basically capital protection - and emerge unscathed or minimal collateral damages.

2. A person told me that he always have problem booking his driving lesson.

3. He told me that to book driving lesson - he must wait until 15th of every month 10pm. And only have 10 minutes to book. Else it will be quickly taken up as slots are limited.

4. He also told me that there is a time duration to book and complete the learning driving lesson - else his paper exam highway code validity will lapse and need to retake and pay another fees.

5. Yesterday 15th 10pm when he try to login to the webpage to book his driving lesson, the apps prevented him to login to book. 10 minutes later, all slots were taken up.

6. For 2 months, he has been unsuccessful in logging in to book his driving lessons and soon his provisional paper exam highway code will be expiring soon. He looks frustrated.

7. I say I don't have to go through to such hassle when I was learning driving and passing my driving exam last time.

8. How come nowadays youngsters have encounter so much difficulties booking their driving lessons?

Pse look into this problem to improve the process.

Can also extend the lapses of the highway code certificate validity?

The whole process is like a human induced pressure cooker - and roadblock thrown in.

If the website cannot login and the slots so limited, how to expect people to learn and take the test? <This message was edited>

PM Wong's leadership renewal brings a new era for Singapore, with a focus on "leading in their own way", building on our foundational strengths, and fostering a fairer society. Further balancing inclusivity and participatory decision making to address diverse perspectives.

The importance of combining traditional wisdom with new innovative approaches, allowing for a convergence of experience and fresh perspectives. This fusion of energies will lead to meaningful progress and growth.

The caveat is crucial given the success of this convergence depends on the willingness and action of the doers, rather than just the thinkers. It's the implementers, the ones who put ideas into practice, who ultimately drive change and enable progress!

The most damaging scenario that I can think of - as I was watching 2 China nationals eating and talking:-

1. What happen if China decide to take on Taiwan militarily.

2. US decide to sanction China.

3. US force us not to trade, do business, invest, or have financial transactions with China - just like the pressure on us with Iran, nkorea and Russia.

4. Our trade and investment in China is huge, mammoth!

What should be our response?

Will we subject to secondary sanctions to our business that deal with China business?

The economic impact to us is tremendous.

I think we must have a contingency plan on this - if the inevitable erupted.

The solutions could be :-

1. US alliance business, tech, Swift finances, etc.

2. Non-US alliance business, tech, yuan or BRICS finances, etc.

So for business that deal with China business and non-US bloc - it must not have dealings with any US entities.

Eventually when US sanctions China if china invade Taiwan, business in group 2 can continue to deal with non-US and China entities.

This is the possible solutions I can think of.

Not sure whether feasible or not...

The whole global situation is one that is:-

1. Uni-polar whereby US is the only dominant power (in Economy and military) - no one can challenge them.

2. Now it is turning multi-polar whereby China economy and military is close on par with US - which are making US uncomfortable - as China is stepping into every aspect of US previous footprint.

3. Hence now the decoupling, secondary sanctions, trade tariffs, alliances etc are designed to contain China's growth and influence.

This is not a pleasant scenario - because when the 2 elephants fight - we smaller countries get trampled.

Hence we got to navigate our way out skilfully - as the tussle for global supremacy get heated.

It will take many years for such multi-polar to settle down and accept one another - could be after a big knock or smaller successive knocks - before global situation settle down and we can breathe a sigh of relief. <This message was edited>

I know government has been helping with CDC vouchers, cash handouts etc but we still feel the heat all round. A family of 4 go to the foodcourt for a meal, easily add up to 30-40 dollars. Of course the family can cook, however the prices of the groceries also went up by folds.

Just take NTUC fairprice white bread for example as I always buy it. I started eating a few years ago for only 1.25 until now 1.95, but it shocked me when I bought it 20/12/23 it was 1.80 and again I bought it 28/12/23 it went up to 1.95 though is still the cheapest option amongst the other brands.

Also NTUC fairprice is supposed to be fair price but I'm surprised to see red strepsils selling at 5.50 and Hup Seng cream crackers 2.50 when is on sale as compared with my neighbour store which sells 3.70 for strepsils and 2.10 for Hup Seng.

This is only 2 products that I always buy, I think should have more things which may be higher price. Can NTUC fairprice do better than to moderate the prices?

To prepare for potential conflicts, ASEAN and Singapore should diversify economic partnerships and reduce dependence on any single big nation. Strengthen regional cooperation and diplomacy through ASEAN/ASEAN + forums.. Upping the military capabilities and readiness, while avoiding provocative or uncalled for actions. Foster good relations with all nations, including China, the US, India, Indonesia & Malaysia and G30. Continuous open channels of engagement, dialogue and negotiations to resolve disputes peacefully. Further develop robust crisis management and conflict resolution mechanisms and promote regional stability through economic development and cooperation. Nothing is impossible, stay vigilant and adaptable, monitoring geopolitical developments closely. By taking these prudent and conventional wisdoms, ASEAN and Singapore can reduce the risk of being drawn into conflicts and promote continue peace and sustainable stability in the region.

Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will be sworn in as the next prime minister today.

In an interview on May 10, DPM Wong outlined his approach to governance and his aspirations for Singapore, wanting Singapore to be a place that embraces different pathways to success, with people from all walks of life assured of the basics – such as housing, education, healthcare and retirement needs – as long as they work consistently.

He added that in considering the best way to take Singapore forward, the country is prepared to relook fundamental assumptions as society’s circumstances, needs and expectations change.

DPM Wong, who is also finance minister, said that in terms of economic growth, Singapore is currently at a high level of development and ranks quite highly in areas such as housing, healthcare, education and transport.

He noted that while former prime minister Goh Chok Tong had in 1984 held up the “Swiss standard of living” as a target for Singaporeans to aspire towards, it is very hard to identify any single benchmark like this today.

“In this new phase, we are in uncharted territory. We have to find our way forward,” DPM Wong said.

“We have to still learn from the best, find best practices, but we have to break new ground. We have to find fresh solutions for our problems and challenges.”

_*📌 Building shared consensus*_

DPM Wong laid out two roles he sees for the Government when it comes to building a shared consensus in the face of differing opinions.

At times, the Government may have to embark on policies it believes are necessary and important after having sounded out different segments of society, even if it knows they are unpopular.

Other instances may involve groups with contradictory views, he said. These could include debates on sensitive issues such as the wearing of tudung in workplaces and the decision to repeal Section 377A of the Penal Code. In such cases, the Government may prefer not to take the lead but allow social norms to evolve organically. DPM Wong said the Government’s role here is to be “more of a facilitator, a listener, an honest broker”

“We find ways to get the different groups to come together, engage one another, listen to each other’s views, and find accommodation and compromise. And then think about what is the best way for Singapore to move forward without fracturing our society,” he said.

In response to a question about the evolving Singaporean identity, DPM Wong stressed the importance of finding common ground, even as every community should feel valued and be able to continue with its customs.

“Even as we maintain these links, we must be mindful that we are first and foremost Singaporeans,” he said. “And while we have these links, we must continually work towards strengthening our Singaporean identity and expanding the common ground that we all share as Singaporeans.”

_*📌 Guided by national interest*_

On the topic of foreign policy, DPM Wong noted that Singapore’s leadership transition takes place at a time of great shifts in the wider world.

He reiterated that Singapore’s approach is to stick to its national interests and act in a consistent and principled way. From time to time, Singapore will say or do things that some countries may not be so happy with, he added.

“It could be China one day, it could be the US another day. We are not here to find a balance between the two,” DPM Wong said.

“If one day I take a position against one country, the next day I have to find another thing to say for the other country so that I can somehow achieve some perceived balance – that is not our approach.”

The silver lining is that Asia will continue to be the centre of gravity of the global economy with many companies wanting to have a presence here, and not just in China or any one country.

_*📌 The road ahead*_

Asked about his interactions with young Singaporeans during the Forward Singapore exercise, which was launched to refresh the social compact together with the fourth-generation leadership team, DPM Wong said he had the sense that they would like to contribute to something larger than themselves.

DPM Wong thinks that young Singaporeans want to have a good life that is measured not only by narrow metrics based on material success, but also by meaning and purpose. “I think these are very noble aspirations,” he said, adding that the Government will help young Singaporeans realise them.

When asked how he would characterise his leadership style, he said “I will be open, consultative, I will listen.“ “But in the end, I will not shirk from doing the right thing and the important decisions that are necessary to take Singapore forward,” he added.

15/5/24, 10:17 am - +Darius Lee: It is not a bad thing for the Government to be open, willing to listen and consultative.

However, there are risks to this approach as well, which the Government must be aware of:

- Populism. There is always a danger that any government leans in a populist direction.

- Vocal interest groups. In any society, there are always groups that are more vocal and groups that are more silent. The Government should not only listen to those vocal ones, but must actively reach out to groups which are more silent, on any given issue.

"The Truths Are Everywhere."

"Wir mussen wissen. Wir werden wissen."

-- David Hilbert, Mathematician, 23/1/1862 - 14/2/1943

Tapestries of truth?

A tapestry of thoughts that resonate deeply

in today's complex and chaotic world, the pursuit of truth can seem daunting, yet it's more crucial than ever. With the vastness of knowledge and mysteries spanning from the smallest earthworms to the farthest reaches of the galaxy, humanity must embrace the challenge of seeking truth. However, this journey is fraught with obstacles, including delusions, variations, and doubts that can lead to frustration and dismissal. Its almost seems transparent and virtually visible and invisible on the front of the future of humankind. How can humankind search for each meaning and the underlying truth of everything from earthworms to axiom particles out of the stratosphere and lost in the Galactica of the greatest mystery after Galileo and Newton, unsolved and the truth is laying out there in zillions of pixels and each pixel contained part of the vast masters of knowledge unknown to be discovered by human pace?

*More Press Conference as part of Government Effort to improve Communication*

1. I particularly like and support the coming PM Lawrence Wong effort to improve communication through press conference.

2. The reasons being :-

a. Public will be able to understand the underlying reasons why and how policies are formulated in this manner.

The benefits, the limitations, the constraints and the intended target audience in which the policies intend to reach out to.

By doing so, public will have a better understanding of the rationale of why policies are formulated in such a manner - and are morely likely to secure buy-in from the public.

b. Also if the policies involved participation, consultation - before reaching a conclusion - buy-in of the policies from the public will be on a solid ground.

c. It is important to reach out to the silent ones - which form the majority of the people.

Silent ones must be encouraged to speak out and provide their feedback on policies that bothers them.

If the Government reach out to the public such as REACH forum through WhatsApp that are doesn't involve face to face or other approach - so that more people are encouraged to speak out - the quiet ones should make use of the opportunities to do so.

_ (Notice that the more vocal ones maintain a "comms silence" for almost 2 hours so that the quiet ones can speak their mind without feeling discomfort and without the feeling of being "crowded out". Else if quiet ones continue to stay silent despite the out-reach efforts to solicit feedback - the forum will forever be comms-silence.................zzzzzzZZZZ )_

d. With more press conference to explain new policies, policies amendment and important strategic Government direction - than misinformation, disinformation will less likely to proliferate in the backdrop of active social media, fake news, deepfakes, live streaming of sensational political views aim to mislead Singaporeans.

Eg. the recent social media sensation on ERP 2.0 - design to discredit the LTA. (Terry Xu)

"OPINION   LTA’s $556 million misstep: Approving an ERP 2.0 device that cannot meet minimum standards of heat tolerance.

In a recent parliamentary session, concerns surfaced about the new ERP 2.0 OBU’s design.

Despite its bulkiness, Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat did not confirm if it meets the AEC-Q100 heat tolerance standards.

The oversight is significant, considering the S$556 million tender for the ERP 2.0 system and the flawless performance of the previous generation’s device for over two decades."

1. Coming PM Lawrence Wong - covid Press Conference and WhatsApp REACH group + others online and offline approach - provide instantaneous communication on Government effort to tackle a life-threatening crisis - and engage immediate public feedback --- eliciting a "Joint Effort" to tackle an existential crisis that affect everyone.

This unite everyone and shape a "single minded effort" - to tackle a crisis that affect everyone - a very good PR and yet collective effort --- "All-in-One" approach to resolve an adverse situation. A resounding success.

2. And the "Forward Singapore" initiative outreach - will also achieve a similar outcome for all major Government policies affecting everyone.

3. Hence I have full confident with the coming PM Lawrence Wong & his 4G leaders approach in governance - a Consultative and yet a "Joint Effort - Government and Public" approach in policy formulation.

A democratic institution of governance - at its best.

Important not to see what is on the surface or optics.

See what is done and delivered.

Eg. I also doze off in a meeting with some bosses especially a long meeting.

Because I got to stay after 7 pm when everyone knock off before I can start to update the system and ended only about  5am.

Next day, the meeting is 9am.

I was late and doze off during the long meeting.

My immediate boss told the meeting, oh he work overnight up to 5am to do maintenance.

And he have to attend the early morning meeting.

The big bosses never scold me.

So don't look at the surface, and the optics and jump into conclusion.

Look at the underlying cause and the outcome.

*Guided by National Interest*

1. Particularly, I am comfortable with the coming PM Lawrence Wong approach to geopolitical tussle from the SuperPowers.

2. As a small Country, a little red dot in the World Map - it is not easy to stand our ground - when 2 Big Elephants clash - and in the midst, try to pull smaller Countries into their alliance bloc.

3. Singapore will not be spared.

4. Hence by putting forth our guiding principles right and communicate openly, then even contesting SuperPowers and bigger Countries will respect our positions and our grounds - and will have trust on our integrity and our principled positions.

5. Specifically, I support our principles :-

a. Be guided by our National Interest --- the basis of our surival and our prosperity.

b. Our voice of reasons - must be morally right and sound.

i. Eg. we don't take sides based on race, based on culture, religions, based on money baits etc.

ii. We communicate our ground based on what is morally right guided by international rule of law.

(If the rule of law is not adequate, we must communicate why we support the spirit of the law but deviate and proposed counter positions or amenment -- so that people will respect us for being a "voice of reasons")

(Where our "voice of reasons" are anchor in the "Universal Law of Karma").

c. Having say so, we must continue to be friends with every Countries in the World based on the principles of :-

"Friends with All.

Enemies with None.

Forge mutual benefits with Win-Win outcome.

朋友满天下。

敌人无一个。

以附会福利的精神,达成双赢的共识。

So that we can win friends all over the World, and benefits from whatever shoring "reshoring", "friendshoring", "nearshoring" --- because we establish trust with every Countries to work for mutual benefits and Win-Win outcomes.

We can agree to disagree - and not let single or some differing issues - to forge mutual benefits.

*Our Economic Futures - at the backdrop of multi-polar economic reshuffling*

1. I am particularly impress by the coming PM Lawrence Wong insights - that despite the sessimic global reshuffling of economic multi-polar movement of "reshoring, friendshoring, near-shoring" - that will structurally disupt our traditional global supply chain ---- we are in the midst of "centre of gravity" of economic growth ---- specifically Asia Pacific and ASEAN centrality of growth.

Many US and West Big Tech and big companies are looking into ASEAN for their next big move --- and Singapore is a big part of it.

Tech Giants Start to Treat Southeast Asia Like Next Big Thing .

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-05-11/tech-giants-start-to-treat-southeast-asia-like-next-big-thing

2. The coming PM is confident that we will be able to find niches that put our Economy into a good stead, to make our business vibrant and create good jobs for our people.

3. Though AI will be a fearsome variable as job disruptor, our people must be trained to capitalise on it and make us even more productive and earn much higher income than succumb by it.

I am confident we can exploit AI to our advantage just like how we exploit computers and IT - in the earlier years.

https://theinvestor.vn/singapore-introduces-ai-in-classrooms-d9966.html

Singapore introduces AI in classrooms.

4. We are in the era of GAI (Generative AI) - that is an AI that are learned from humans and unable to understand nuance, context, human 5 mental aggregates  of 5-sense consciousness, feelings, perceptions, judgement, mental formation - hence no way GAI can beat human minds.

GAI is still very much a productivitiy tools to humans just like what computer and IT is to humans.

AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) - that tout learning of human cognitive process is still a fallacy.

Hence we should exploit AI effectively, and ride the economic and job challenges ahead of us --- and we need not fear AI that will replace our jobs.

5. Remote jobs and offshoring of jobs -- WFH ---- as I was talking to a SME boss - is quite a challenge when I try to get his view about flexible work arrangement, 4-day work week.

This is what he told me, his specific words as I quote:-

a. Now youngsters are "less hungry" compare to foreign workers. Foreign workers can see their "fire in their eyes", eager to work more with less.

Our youngsters job workers are always asking, can work at home or not, got 4 day work week or not and Singapore workers so expensive compare to foreign workers.

He told me now I got a few Singaporeans with me, and also I got few "offshore foreign workers" with me - and all work equally well.

He say if our Singaporeans resign, he will engage "offshore foreign workers" - as they are cheaper and more hungry.

I ask him, I thought MOM got pro-rata employment quota dictate that there must be more Singaporean workers in the office (I say I don't know the exact quote, I guess 2/3 Singaporeans workers and 1/3 foreign workers, I thought?)

He say "onboard Singaporeans workers ratio" no change - but "remote offshore - more foreign workers".

I say "oh..... and comm silence for a long while reflecting what he told me................................................"

b. Hence we must be careful of the development going on in especially the SMEs space, and also look out in the job front in MNCs and bigger organisations space. Don't let people eat our lunches....

15/5/24, 5:21 pm - +Andy: I'm confident with PM Lawrence Wong and his team, Singapore is in good hands and life will be better as a whole. Not that now is no good, in fact Singapore has been progressing since independence with ex PM LKY, GCT and LHL with their colleagues. The majority of us got education, have jobs some business owners, own HDB some private property some own both, living in a safe environment.

When the Asian financial crisis and COVID hits us the government makes swift decisions to bring Singapore out of it. I cannot imagine if Singapore doesn't have a government with a majority, what will happen when a crisis hits again. So please give PM Lawrence Wong and his team a strong mandate when the election comes.

Having said all the above, I'm not saying I support every policy the government or statutory board makes. For one I'm not supporting the ebikes, shared path, usage of PMD. So I hope with the Forward Singapore and more listening to the grounds like this WhatsApp group and other different groups, we can make a better life for all of us.

15/5/24, 6:35 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Yesterday there was a conversation between a man and a woman in a crowded bus.

And it is very relevant to today's topic.

2. It started off as an innocent conversation with an innocent topic - but then it steamroll into something very big of global implication.

3. The content must have caught attention of the crowded bus and many people talking among themselves as it is a evening peak hour whereby many office workers are going home - because the voices in the bus suddenly stopped and everyone seems to listen intently to the conversation - even though the conversation is not loud, measured like normal conversation but audible.

The content must be very interesting and close to everyone's heart - as seems like everyone is listening to the conversation intently - even though it is converse in a mix of Chinese and English (mainly Chinese).

4. This is how the conversation goes :-

Woman :- Nowadays everything price increases, and online order of goods - delay for 1 or 2 months.

Must be the Ukraine war that cause the delay and the high price - all stuck in the Red Sea.

Man :- No not correct, Ukraine war don't trap the ships in the Red Sea, it is the Middle East War. Ukraine war trap goods in the Mediterranean Sea.

Now ships got to go via the Cape of Good Hope of Africa, insurance go up, delivery delay for 1 to 2 months, good prices go up.

Woman :-When will the 2 war stops? It seems like it is going to fight on for many years. Will it trigger something big (World War 3)?

Man :- Not easy for the 2 wars to stop because of Human 人心五毒 - 贪嗔痴慢疑。 (Human 5 inherent poison - greed (power), hatred, Ignorance (that violence will come to no good end), Arrogant (Power bullies), No trust among people.

Unless, people recognise and 放下 (drop) these 5 poisons in human heart and mind - then very difficult to stop the fight and geopolitical tension - and collaborate and cooperate for the greater good.

Woman :- But the Middle East had a very complex and long complicated history and sufferings.

Man :- It is just 一口怨气 (1 unhappy gas - in the heart) - 放下 (put down, let go) - then all poisons stop.

Human has body and have discomfort, anger is bound to come. But human must be able to recognise it immediately, and put it down within 10 minutes - and don't let anger consume us.

For hatred, drop it by the next day - and don't let hatred bring forward into another day.

Another day is a fresh day, a new life, with positive energy 正能量 - and must not let negative energy 负能量 - carry to another day - and ruin our lives.

Man :- 万般带不走,唯有业随身。Everything, wealth, power, house, land, loved ones cannot bring with us when we die, only karma, retribution will follow us like shadow.

Do good, good outcome. Do bad, bad outcome.

Woman :- Not so easy to let go of hatred and anger.

Man :- LKY though very strict, has a Big Heart, Big Mind 肚量大,心量大。Our ancestors also slaughter by Japs - and yet we can forgive them - and be friends to work for mutual benefits. What happen is the ancestors and not the current generations. Why let hatred pass down from generations to generations?

If we can do it, why Middle East cannot do it?

Man :- Why do we clenched our fist every day - hate others?

When we hate others, we torture ourselves, we suffer, others suffer --- just look at destruction and death happenings?

Is it worth it?

Why can't work for mutual benefits?

If human life is only 100 years - why don't make every year a fulfilling life - help ourselves, help others --- and make the World a better World.

Hence we need to 顿悟 the world to project our voice of reasons to the World not   渐悟 (slowly let people realise - could be too slow as world affairs are collapsing quite rapidly。

Man :- When we relax our clenched fist, we forgive others, and we save ourselves from sufferings and fire of hatred.

And we can extend our hands to make friends with the World - every Countries - for mutual benefits, prosperity and peace

This is what our successive of leaders able to do - make many friends, make Singapore a Pureland in the little red dot.

If every Countries do this, there will be World Peace and no World War 3.

As people start to descend the bus, they turn around and look at the couples in conversation - and I think it must have a profound impact on their mind reflecting the conversations of the couples --- simple concept - but profound impact.
